Description

Standing in central Windermere in the heart of the Lake District this architect-designed house is a great base for exploring the National Park.

In the heart of Windermere village, a two-minute walk from the train station, this is a very convenient and comfortable holiday base. Caxton Cottage is a cosy, detached house, with its own parking in front, and a small outside enclosed yard with seating area behind. It is a level stroll into the village with its lovely shops, restaurants and cafés, and then a pleasant walk down the hill into Bowness. A car isn’t necessary as there are many local walks; the lake and the path to local viewpoint. Orrest Head is only minutes away and there are excellent transport links to the wider Lake District. Kendal is 9 miles. Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter museums are within a 20-minute drive. Shops, pubs and restaurants 200 yards.

Step to entrance. Living room. Glazed doors leading to open-plan fitted kitchen and dining area. First floor: Two double bedrooms. Bathroom with electric over-bath shower and toilet.

We would have given straight tens for this property but for a parking issue when we arrived, a car from another holiday let was in our space which took a day to sort. Perhaps a chain across the parking space with padlock available in the property would alleviate this problem. Not the owners fault though. Apart from that a very nice property with first class accommodation throughout. Would definitely stay again. 5 star.

Closer to town and amenities that I originally thought. Pub directly across the road! The wee house has everything you need, including easy to control central heating which is great during a winter weekend visit. Modern kitchen but still with a cottage feel. Excellent stay and would recommend.

The cottage was lovely and clean well equipped and nicely furnished. We had heavy rain and two windows leaked the owner seemed to be aware of this. Windermere is a beautiful village with a lovely selection of shops.

This cottage offers everything that's needed, both equipment and comfort in the cottage, and location. One comment in the visitors book said the road was noisy, but there's always a compromise with such a location, it didn't bother us. We got into a bit of a middle with the recycling process, the calendar was last year's which didn't help and we should have had a bag as well as the two boxes. Luckily we were still there when the recycling collection guys came, so got it sorted. But as this process is different in every LA area, instructions would be useful, fortunately as the guys came up to the property and sorted us out, not the case elsewhere where it's your responsibility to put the bins/boxes/bags kerbside. The water pipes made a bit of a noise when a bath was run. That being said, we loved the property and our stay, and parking for two cars is definitely a bonus.
