Description

Standing in central Windermere in the heart of the Lake District this architect-designed house is a great base for exploring the National Park.

In the heart of Windermere village, a two-minute walk from the train station, this is a very convenient and comfortable holiday base. Caxton Cottage is a cosy, detached house, with its own parking in front, and a small outside enclosed yard with seating area behind. It is a level stroll into the village with its lovely shops, restaurants and cafés, and then a pleasant walk down the hill into Bowness. A car isn’t necessary as there are many local walks; the lake and the path to local viewpoint. Orrest Head is only minutes away and there are excellent transport links to the wider Lake District. Kendal is 9 miles. Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter museums are within a 20-minute drive. Shops, pubs and restaurants 200 yards.

Step to entrance. Living room. Glazed doors leading to open-plan fitted kitchen and dining area. First floor: Two double bedrooms. Bathroom with electric over-bath shower and toilet.

Well what can we say other than wow! We stayed for New Year and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Great location, just outside of the hustle and bustle of Lake Windermere and lovely bars/cafes/shops on the doorstep. Great location for exploring the area. The cottage was warm, cosy and spotlessly clean and we felt at home as soon as we walked in. We enjoyed it so much that we booked to come back next New Year before we'd even left! Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful cottage, can't wait to return later this year!

Lovely little cottage with enough parking for 2 cars if needed. Fantastic location for Windermere town and its amenities and local attractions Minus side second bedroom a little on the small side but there again only sleeping in it.

Very nice, bit expensive but I guess that's just because it is in the Lake District. Had everything you needed. Free parking was brilliant. Bed in second bedroom was a small double which was a bit of a squeeze for my 2 children.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. The double beds are as standard 4’ 6”.

An excellent, well maintained cottage in a terrific location. A two minute walk to the bus and train interchange, lots of eating options nearby and very well equipped for a self catering stay. Definitely going back!

We stayed at Caxton cottage with our two 7 year old children and found it to be charming, clean and welcoming. the location was excellent, not too far to walk down to Bowness if you fancy a stroll and right in the centre of Windermere. The rooms were clean and cosy and it had a lovely cottage feel to it. The kitchen was perfect! It was clean and a good size and had everything we needed during our short stay. PERFECT

Family of 4 with small dog - great place to stay. Just bring some food and everything else is provided (even a spot for the car!)
