Scottish Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Description

Dating from the 18th century, this charming cottage has stunning original arched windows, and was originally the cart shed for the stables.

Set in 4 acres of woodland and close to the quaint village of Failford, this detached 18th-century cottage has stunning original arched windows and is a short walk away from the River Ayr Way. It provides a tranquil base from which to explore the beauty of Ayrshire and south west Scotland. Ayrshire offers unspoilt scenery and a varying coastline with the Ayrshire Coastal Path (a long distance walking route winding 100 miles along one of the finest panoramic coastlines in the British Isles) being easily accessed. Inland, there are gardens and castles to visit, as well as riding, racing, golf and country parks. Day trips to Ireland can be taken from Stranraer, and both Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily reached for a day out. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Lovely cottage, well appointed decor, modern yet sympathetic to original building. Wanted a relaxing break and that's exactly what we got. Owners very pleasant yet non intrusive, perfect.

Very pleasant location. The cottage was lovely inside and the owners were very friendly & helpful. One point I would make -there was hardly any lighting outside and around the cottage and when trying to find the cottage in the dark it was very hard. Other than that we would definitely recommend to others.

The Cart Shed is a lovely place to stay. It is beautifully fitted out, with modern furnishings and a wood stove. The owners provided a much-appreciated welcome package of bubbly & some groceries, including delicious eggs from their own poultry. We loved watching the chickens when they visited in front of our windows and we stopped frequently to talk to the ducks in their pen. The bedrooms are separated by the living space so there is good privacy. The owners were near enough for assistance, but not obtrusive. We would definitely rent again.

A superb holiday location. Very comfortable. Owners left a really helpful (and tasty) pack for us when we came in and were very friendly throughout our stay. The Cart Shed is really much more luxurious than the name implies. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

We had a great stay! The cart shed is very modern but also unique. The location in the lowlands is quiete central for a few car trips to the surrounding.

We stayed here for a week and arrived to a fantastic welcome pack provided, loved the milk and fresh orange bottles too! Everything was clean and tidy and lots of equipment, a very comfortable stay with the log burner switched on a couple of nights to take the chill away was lovely. Only feedback would be that the garden is only slightly enclosed to one side and therefore we were unable to let our dogs off their leads when outside but a minor really. Thank you to the Aitken's again for their hospitality.
