The first impression going strait into the bedroom from the outside was not great, it was large but cold and damp, the so called en-suite was not, it was at the bottom of the stairs. The concrete steps to upstairs I thought where risky. The main living area was nice but having the freezer in the mezzanine was unsuitable, up and down the spirel staircase. The lighting was great. The bathroom with see through glass to other houses was not very good. The cleaning left a lot to be desired, cobweb heaven. The train noise could be heard all day

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; We were both upset and shocked to read your comments which contradict the ones left in our visitor’s book and in our conversations with you. The fact that the bedroom is downstairs was clearly a surprise to you on arrival yet it is stated on the web page. We can confidently say the cottage is not damp as the barn was completely rebuilt 11 years ago to the latest specification and has under floor heating which guests are free to control. The concrete steps are non-slip and perfectly safe. With 1 train an hour in both directions, and the line in a cutting at the far side of a field you can barely hear them from the barn, and of course none at night. We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of the barn and are frequently awarded 10 out of 10 from our guests.

This was a superb cottage in terms of facilities, cleanliness, location and helpfulness of the owners. It is a most attractive barn conversion in an amazingly beautiful location. The nearby train station (about 1 mile) makes this a practical location for a holiday without a car. We can't rate the experience too highly, it really was a very special place and stay.

Carringtons Barn was wonderful. The photographs do not do it justice. The location is stunning but peaceful yet only a few miles from many of Derbyshire's attractions e.g The Blue John Mines. The owners are helpful and friendly but not intrusive. The cottage is well equipped. We found living up-side down good for watching the wildlife but less convenient when we wanted to relax in the garden. Food, drinks, crockery, books etc had to be carried downstairs and then back again. The area is excellent for walks of all lengths and some nice pubs for meals were within easy reach. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed our stay at the barn couldn't of asked for a better base and area. If there was one draw back i would say take your own logs if you can as it worked out at £1 per log ( £10 per bag which had in 9 logs and kindling). On saying that you don't need the log burner on as the barn has more than enough heating and that is included in the price.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; The log burner in Carringtons barn has a metal flue and a catalytic converter. Damp or resinous logs can cause irreparable damage to these in a very short time. We therefore offer to our guests kiln dried hardwood logs which are the recommended fuel for most log burners including ours. We charge £7 for around a dozen logs, depending on size, and £3 for kindling. The further advantage of dense hardwood logs is that they burn for at least three times as long as the cheaper softwood ones, which is extremely good value for our guests. We are happy for guests to bring their own logs but please ensure that they have been properly seasoned!

Hosts very welcoming and accommodating. Love all the different coloured mood lights in lounge and bathroom. The actual bed was lovely and made by the host but also the mattress and duvet were some of best we have had. The only downside was the sofa that we did not find so comfortable. Maybe a bit of tread could be stuck onto the concrete stairs for added safety.
