This former Cumbrian farmhouse enjoys a spectacular remote location, high up on Bampton Common among the Lake Districts eastern fells and close to Ullswater and Haweswater. Carhullan was completely modernised whilst retaining its character, complemented with furnishings and equipment of the highest quality. The location of Carhullan, two miles from the village of Bampton and eight miles from Penrith is a perfect peaceful retreat, yet only 15 minutes from the M6. It is accessed along a ’no through road’ where it is situated at the very end, approximately two miles. There are walks from the doorstep, over High Street to Ullswater and across Bampton Common to Haweswater. Bampton has a village tea room with shop and the Mardale Inn serves good food and real ale.

Ground Floor: Property has oil central heating and comprises:
Lounge: Open plan with BT Vision and Freeview TV, DVD, video, CD and open fire.
Kitchen/Diner: With electric Aga, dishwasher and microwave.
Utility: With fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.
Sitting Room: With wood burning stove.

First Floor: Bedroom 1: With 17th Century four poster bed.

Bedroom 3: With double bed and en-suite with power shower, WC and wash basin.
Bedroom 4: Family Room with Super king size bed (can be made up as a twin this must be requested on booking), bunk beds and en-suite with power shower, WC, bidet and wash basin.

    We all fell in love with carhullan the minute we arrived. It blew a gale outside all weekend but we barely noticed inside those thick walls with the fires going. There was more than enough space for the 9 of us to either hangout together for meals and films as well as spread out for a wee bit solitude. Our (fairly major) gripe was the kitchen. Although it looked lovely and the breakfast bar was excellent to sit around as we cooked, we were very disappointed in the kitchen equipment available. We are all keen cooks and felt the aga didn't quite provide enough cooking space, nor was it hot enough for a few things we wanted to do. The dishwasher struggles to keep up with dishes for 9 people and utensils, serving bowls etc were basic. it would be really helpful if the utility room had a "normal cooker" as the baby belling is also quite limiting. Whilst by no means ruining our holiday, the addition of a balloon whisk (we might have left one of those), a sharp knife and some decent serving bowls (to name but a few) would turn this into our dream holiday home. A minor point would also be that the parking round the rear of the house could be signposted to avoid confusion, particularly when arriving in the dark

    Poor poor beds. Completely ruined our sleep as mattresses had springs coming out of them. For the money we paid we would expect the beds to be comfortable. Sleeping on worn mattresses made our holiday miserable as we have limited comfort and sleep.

    Response on behalf of the owner; I am sorry you were so disappointed to score our property 1 out of 10. We wish you had approached us while you were on holiday and then we could have helped you visit the beautiful surrounding area. We have not had any poor comments regarding the cleanliness of our property before we have a cleaner who always does a thorough job. We have just purchased new sofa for the comfort of our guest and the mattresses are nice and soft I know that is not to everyone’s liking perhaps next time we will invest in a firmer mattress.
