The coastal area around the Gite is beautiful. the Gite itself is a stunning house that even in early April was very warm given its south facing setting. if you like world war 2 history, bunkers, gun placements etc then this part of France has it all. The Todt battery near the Gite is well worth a visit as is the bunker in Calais opposite the stunning town hall. The Gite could do with a few new utensils, sheets, towels etc and aluminium saucepans are no use with an induction hob, why they are there is a mystery, we had to cook pasta in a big frying pan. other than those minor niggles, we had a fabulous week.

We have stayed in this property three consecutive years and when we went for the first time we thought we would return every year - it was newly built & decorated and well equipped. We loved the location and being able to walk to the beach at the end of the road, and the open plan layout suited our family holiday well. However, no money has been spent on the property and it has gone way downhill. The house is looking grubby and rundown, the kitchen equipment is badly depleted. Saucepans with peeling Teflon, large casserole dishes were missing, no wine glasses, no Tupperware as there had been previously. The cheap budget kettle lid required sellotape to hold it down and the coffee machine was broken too! You can't really do a self catered holiday without bringing your own equipment along unless you want to eat microwave meals... The cheap foam mattresses are bearing up badly and the cheap IKEA bedding which is still the original is so bobbly it feels like you're sleeping in toast crumbs. Towels are threadbare, blinds are fraying at the edges. Additionally, it is not on to pay for a professional clean on departure but find the previous occupants have not - on our middle visit the house was basically filthy and there was a mouse living under the fridge. On the third visit we still had to do a lot of cleaning ourselves. But there are no cleaning products provided anymore (there were on our first visit) so these had to be purchased ourselves. We will not be returning - such a shame, this property has great potential but is no longer good value for money. The furnishings and equipment fall way below what could reasonably be expected in this price bracket - other properties we have visited are finished to a much higher standard and have always been clean on arrival.

The only criticism I have is that there were not enough bowls or towels. Luckily we had taken our own towels. There were 6 of us staying there but only 4 bowls. We had to buy extra from the supermarket in order for us all to eat breakfast together.
