Overall, beautiful town. Idyllic. The cottage itself was a little cramped for our taste and no privacy on patio.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- We are very sorry Daniella found that Butts Cottage was smaller than they had expected or are accustomed to as we ensure our description and photos are very accurate. Bakewell is a beautiful town and part of its charm and character is because of the old original properties like Butts Cottage which have evolved over many years. Space was not a luxury people could afford years ago and so the houses reflect that, and it is rare that such a property has the benefit of a courtyard where one is able to sit out. The neighbour's only have a right of access to the courtyard, so it is fair to say that it is not entirely private, but it is not overlooked by any of them and it is not a thorough way to anywhere else so one would not normally expect to be disturbed there.

not as expected from your website. It was clean and homely but no better than other accommodation we've used in the past which have not been rated so highly. Problems arose on arrival no bread and milk provided on arrival the dishwasher had not been emptied and contained much of the cutlery, plates etc and pans. two of the bathroom lights did not work, and made shaving difficult. the area at the rear of the property is at best unpleasant as it contained poor furniture, and the stable area adjacent to it is used to store the waste bins for at least 3 other properties and could not be used for anything else. On arrival we had to access the cellar to use the freezer. On turning on the light over the cellar steps it blew and all the lights in the house stopped working. I assumed the light blowing had tripped the switch in the fusebox, but didn't know where this was located, and the cottage documentation made no mention of it. I tried to contact the owner (after 5pm onthe day of arrival) and got an answerphone message and the number of a mobile to ring in the event of an emergency. I did not consider this an emergency and having determined that the fusebox must be in the cellar we went into the town to buy a torch. We had to go anyway to buy milk for a cup of tea after 3 hours travelling. Having returned with a torch (and milk) and descended safely into the cellar located the fusebox and flipped the switch the lighting returned. Overall this was not a good start to our holiday.
