Building in poor condition. One bedroom with no light switch and broken door handle. Furniture -sagging armchairs, drawers filled with many personal effects, tables broken, wardrobe had soiled jeans, pants and socks; sandpit had no cover and very little sand, replaced with weeds, children's play area unusable -overgrown with nettles and grasses. At pool area outbuilding full of rubbish and toilet light broken.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: I was very surprised to read your comments as we have been in touch since you left and you didn’t mention any concerns to me regarding your holiday. It is part of the terms and conditions that guests are to leave the house in a similar state to how they find it and it is unfortunate that upon departure this was not found to be the case and extra cleaning was required. The property, as is stated in the description, dates back to the early 1600s and has a lot of character. It is inspected each year by a representative from the company and they take the photographs shown on the website. It is well maintained and we continually undertake restoration of the property with redecoration and new carpets in the bedrooms (not shown in the photographs on the website) in the month before you arrived. We get repeat bookings and we have guests that have rebooked for Christmas. In terms of the furnishings, the armchairs are filled with feathers and they are premium sofas but, if you are used to foam filled furniture, I can see how this mistake could be made. The pool house has several rooms and a small part is used for storing our winter cover and accessories used for protecting the pool in the winter months. Because this is such a large property, we do employ a team of cleaners and gardeners and we are proud of the standards that we achieve. I am however genuinely sorry that these guests were unsatisfied with the property. We know how important holidays are and had we been made aware of any issues while you were staying with us we would, of course, have resolved them immediately.
