Stunning, elegant accommodation ideal for larger groups of friends and family, with chandeliers, four poster beds, pool table, Eskdale nearby.

Irton Hall is a stunning holiday location with impressive history, set in the foothills of the Western fells of the Lake District between Wasdale and Eskdale. Parts of the magnificent hall, such as the Pele Tower, date from the 14th century. The Pele Tower (ref 25366) creates a totally unique holiday venue on four floors featuring spacious rooms with beams, sandstone walls and an original stone spiral staircase from top to bottom of the tower. The third floor family bedroom and en-suite are accessed via this spiral staircase; the other floors have additional standard staircase access, whilst the first floor living room has a leisure area with pool table. Broughton House (ref 24374) forms the west wing of Irton Hall, where spacious elegant rooms, chandeliers and a grand staircase with stained glass windows make this a dream holiday venue. A pool table in the living room and wi-fi access enhance the excellent facilities available. The Clock Tower (ref 24587) is a wonderful original stone detached building behind the main hall with a modern interior, including 4 shower rooms and a spacious family living area with patio doors opening onto a private decked area. Set beside the main hall, Lamplugh (ref 25507) is a delightful, semi-detached holiday cottage with spacious rooms looking out over grounds, having its own private sitting-out area and freedom to roam the nature trails within the woods. Lingard Cottage (ref 26257) is a semi-detached cottage to the side of the main hall and has its own entrance hall and French doors to sitting-out area. Ormondroyd Cottage (ref 26258) is also a semi-detached cottage to the side of the main hall with its own entrance hall and French doors from the living room to a small balcony overlooking open countryside.
Both Oliver Cromwell and Henry VI visited the hall, although it is reputed that Henry VI was refused entry and spent the night under the 1000 year old oak tree in front of the house, known as ‘The King’s Oak’.
Surrounded by 19 acres of natural parkland where children can play to their hearts’ content and guests may wander and explore the natural habitats of abundant wildlife in the grounds. A short drive will bring you to wide sandy beaches, the Eskdale miniature steam railway at Ravenglass and Muncaster Castle and Gardens which also house the unique International Owl Sanctuary. The Langdales are to the east, accessed via the Hard Knott Pass and Wrynose Pass, whilst Wasdale and Wastwater with their amazing views of Great Gable and Scafell Pike are 5 miles away. Ideally situated at the heart of the western Lake District, many lakes are within easy reach such as Ennerdale Water, Crummock Water and Buttermere, whether to stroll along the banks and watch the reflection of the drifting clouds in the Lakes, or expend some energy climbing the rugged hills to admire the stunning views from the top - the choices are endless. The historic port and marina of Whitehaven which hosts the Tall Ships Race every two years is 14 miles, with shops, restaurants, museums and many holiday activities. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Lovely old house. Well equipped for large family gathering. Beautiful grounds and the children loved the assorted animals.

Not brilliant weather but we knew what to expect. Lovely area- not so crowded as the eastern Lakes. Fabulous environment - the children pretended they were living in a castle ! Kitchen needs better lighting and the fridge/freezers were definitely past their best. Bed settees need a bit more padding or new mattresses. Local garage with shop very friendly and helpful and cost effective, stocking most essentials. We went to Church on Easter Sunday - very welcoming and easter egg hunt was much enjoyed by our children. Despite negative comments made here (only to be helpful) we had a superb time and would definitely like to visit again.

A beautiful place to stay with plenty of room for the 4 adults and 10 children in the party. I reduced the score from a perfect 10 to a 9 due to the levels of lighting in the kitchen and 1st floor bathroom - quite dim on an evening.

Had the best time stay here with my family, perfect venue for the kids, parents and grandparents. Perfect table for lovely meals and fire in the lounge for after. Had a few issues with the cooker but Irton Hall resolved the issues promptly. It exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be back! Thank you!
