Guests are welcome to wander through the 20 acres of open farmland and woodland which belongs to the farm. Horse riding and trekking can be found within walking distance of the properties. Elsdon is a quintessential Northumbrian village, a complete example of a medieval settlement in this stunning area which is overlooked by hills on all sides, amidst rolling moors and grasslands. Enjoy the many ways to experience the qualities of the National Park, sample local produce from a farmer’s market, walk in the footsteps of the Romans on a National Trail, climb the crags, cycle the byways or even join in with the music and dancing at a local show. The cottage was just right for our week away. The beds were really comfortable and everything there is pretty new and in good condition. The only things I would possibly mention were that although a washing machine and line are provided there were no pegs - luckily I had taken my own. If you were to visit in the autumn / winter and had bad/wet weather I think you would struggle to dry and air your coats, boots, waterproofs etc - space is a bit tight. The property is also about a 6/7 minute drive from the nearest shop - which to be fair sells absolutely everything you could possibly want! It would have been nice to have had a pint of milk in the fridge as we've had in several other cottages after our 5 hour journey for a cup of tea. The owners did leave us a box of chocolates which was a nice touch. The local pub in Elsdon, about a mile away is currently undergoing a big refurbishment and is only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings and doesn't yet do food. For the money a good cottage.
