Enjoying a wonderful setting with views over the picturesque town centre and harbour and views out to open sea, this spacious, detached house offers an ideal holiday base from which to explore the surrounding area. From the challenging uplands of the Galloway Hills, to the gentle seaside trails, rolling moors and dramatic cliff-top walks, the Southern Upland Way, passing close by, presents the ideal focus from which to enjoy the many and varied shorter walks within the region. The dramatic scenery is home to a rich company of flora and fauna, with many unusual species including pine martens, golden eagle, ospreys, red deer, red squirrels and the natterjack toad. The area has many renowned gardens to visit, including the Botanic Gardens in Port Logan. Wigtown is also home to a charming gallery, excellent cafes and is located only a few miles from Bladnoch Distillery, where visitors can sample the local malt whisky. For fishermen, the area offers a wide variety of opportunities including sea fishing from Portpatrick and both trout and salmon fishing is close by. Other country pursuits are available including shooting and riding. Golfers will feel equally at home in this area with many golf courses within a 20-minute drive. Turnberry, with its world-famous course is only 45 minutes away and also offers a spa, off-road driving, quad biking activities and restaurant facilities. For the active, there are numerous cycle routes set out in stunning Forestry Commission surroundings and cycle hire is available at these centres. Sailing is available via the local marina, and for those happy to travel slightly further afield, there is the Galloway Sailing Centre, where visitors can also try windsurfing, canoeing and power boating. From Stranraer (15 miles) there is the ferry service to Ireland for a day trip. Beach 300 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

    A bit of a surprise to arrive and find a very large For Sale sign at the property! The house was warm and comfortable but no visitor book so no indication of when the bin was emptied and no facilities for re-cycling. The house had no curtains on the windows except at the front bedroom which gave the house a rather "unfinished"look and the lack of any information regarding the house meant that we had to go looking for the washing line etc. Perhaps an Information Pack would have been more welcoming. Portpatrick is a delightful village and we enjoyed exploring the surrounding area despite rather disappointing weather.

    A pleasant, spacious property with lovely views. We were surprised that there was no information provided on heating and hot water, and the boiler appeared to be outside in a locked outhouse. We would have liked heating when we came in at 4.30pm, but had to wait until 6pm. On the third day the master switch for the boiler was accidentally turned off, so we had to phone the owner to see what to do. He explained where the controls etc were, and how to override the timer. This information should have been in the house! We also phoned him on the first night to say that the light bulb in the upstairs bathroom needed replacing. It was not a standard one so there was no replacement in the house. He was unable to provide us with a new one, so the couple using that bathroom had to leave the door open when using it after dark for all three nights. This was not acceptable!

    Excellent location and plenty of bedroom space. The 3 bathrooms in the property was ideal as we used the cottage for a "golf tour" and made getting away in the mornings easy. Portpatrick is a quiet scenic location and has the usual facilities of pubs restaurants and small local shops which were fine. Plenty of parking and the overall property was well equipped. Minor point of not sufficient mirrors in the bathrooms but generally excellent,

    One of the showers had no hot water, and on one day the boiler broke down meaning no hot water at all until it was fixed mid afternoon. Other than that, a beautiful cottage with a fabulous view over a lovely town.
