Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Tucked in the moorland hamlet of Beck Hole, this carefully tended old stone cottage oozes charm and character.

Over 250 years old, this stone-built, semi-detached holiday cottage oozes charm and character from the beamed ceilings to the wood burner and pretty little courtyard. Peacefully located in the tiny hamlet of Beck Hole in the North York Moors National Park, just a short stroll from the smallest pub in the north of England, where traditional ales are served. The well-known Rail Trail runs through the village and walkers will delight in the many footpaths that abound. The Mallyan Spout Waterfall is a must when staying in Beck Hole and the village of Goathland, made famous as Aidensfield in the TV series ‘Heartbeat’, is less than 1 mile. The traditional seaside resort of Scarborough is 24 miles with cliff top castle, beaches, pier and Sea Life Centre. Quaint fishing and smuggling villages of Robin Hoods Bay, 13 miles, Runswick Bay, 16 miles and Staithes, 18 miles, all have their own appeal with beaches, narrow lanes and alleyways to explore. Whitby is about 10 miles away and is also known for fishing, fish and chips, and its 3 mile stretch of beach. Discover the myriad shops in the cobbled lanes, climb the 199 steps to St Mary’s church or the abbey ruins, or take the ferry for a sail round the coast. Inland, there are pretty market towns including Pickering, 15 miles and Helmsley, 30 miles, with their street markets, shops and castle ruins to explore. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub 100 yards.

Ground floor: Living/dining room/conservatory with beams and French doors. 2 steps down to kitchen with beams and wooden floor. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath.

Great to arrive to a welcome basket plus logs ready for the fire. Linda made us most welcome and ensured we settled in. The 300 year old Brookwood provided a comfortable place to stay with long walks on the level on our door step as well as the steep inclines expected. The is a rare find in the lovely Beck Hole with pub a few hundred metres away - torch essential. Also the NYMR line is a short walk away. All three bedrooms have en suite and one is on the ground floor. Very secure patio garden. Kids will love the duck pond and rescued pig. Tall people might needed to watch for head room and off road parking requires a little care. Most importantly of all our dog was welcome.

A very cosy cottage set in a very quiet village very close by to Goathland and only 9 miles to Whitby. There are ample walks available on the doorstep from the cottage and the nearby railtrail is a beautiful walk offering excellent views. The cottage is a great size and very cosy and has all the amenities you would need a little home from home. You don't want for anything and if it's not there Linda, the owner, is only to happy to help. The welcome basket is a lovely touch on arrival, wine, cheese, crackers and chocolate what more could you ask for?! The garden is a great size and you have the use of a BBQ at your disposal. The garden is beautiful. Linda is very helpful and very attentive always on hand should you need anything or have an issue, a query or a need for anything. We had a fabulous stay and it was a great choice of cottage for our honeymoon! We had a lovely time. The only thing is that the villagers and neighbours do like the peace and quiet, any noise out of the ordinary seems to be a little unwelcome.

The Cottage and Surroundings were perfect. Linda, the owner, was very welcoming and friendly . Many lovely walks from the cottage ; especially along the old rail track walk behind the cottage to Grosmont. Very peaceful and relaxing , wonderful just listening to the river close by and the wildlife around the cottage. Highly recommend Brookwood, you won't be disappointed i am sure.

We were made to feel very welcome by Martin and Linda and given an excellent tour and explanation of the various features of the cottage which had all the facilities we needed. It was very comfortable and warm (in some very unseasonably June weather!). We loved the setting with all the animals and the safe area for the dogs. There are a great many excellent walks straight from the door so there is no need to drive at all. Steam trains pass close by, excellent for train enthusiasts. We will certainly go back to this cottage in the future, it was perfect for us.

We enjoyed another wonderful stay at Brookwood with family. We were able to make the most of the peaceful, pretty courtyard area to sit outside for meals and admire the view. The children loved the animals and feeding Bobby the pig. Linda was a wonderful host, very helpful and her and Martin were on hand should we have needed anything. The cottage has everything you could need for a really comfortable, homely stay and is ideally located for enjoying both the countryside and the coast. We definitely plan on coming again!

Beck Hole is a pretty and quiet location. Cottage is well appointed, clean and tidy. Some of the upstairs ceiling space is a little low and doorways small - this is an old property after all - very tall and very large people might find that restrictive but not a problem at all for most people. Owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful. Various animals overlook the back garden - ducks, horse, llamas and a very friendly pig who will sit when asked and can be hand fed - will keep visitors of all ages entertained. Entrance to the cottage gate is a little tight as seen in the photo - those with very large cars might find it easier to park outside on the road - we could get in and out fine with an estate car. Nothing the owners can do about the size of the gateway.
