Description

A true ‘rural retreat’ nestled in the Duddon Valley and surrounded by rugged moorland, wonderful views and endless walks.

This traditional detached holiday farmhouse enjoys an idyllic rural situation, tucked away in the Duddon Valley, within the Lake District National Park. Close to the river, The Duddon Valley is a ’Jewel in the Crown’ of Cumbria, situated between Coniston and Eskdale, remote, unspoilt and perhaps the most idyllic corner of the Lake District. The Duddon Valley will delight walkers, mountain bikers, climbers, nature lovers and those who enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside. The tiny villages of Ulpha and Seathwaite are two focal points of the valley. At Ulpha there’s a village shop/PO, whilst Seathwaite, situated near the end of the ancient Walna Scar road, boasts the 16th century Newfield Inn, where good home-cooked food, real ales and a warm welcome await, all day all year. The property is surrounded by moorland, with wonderful views up the valley and walks from the door. Conveniently located for Ulpha, Eskdale, Boot, Seathwaite and Broughton-in-Furness. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

A warm, comfortable cottage with the most fabulous views. Lots of sheep round the cottage with their baby lambs. Beds very comfy and total seclusion. A great place to recharge your batteries.

A wonderful house, a rare example of an un-ponsified fell farm. The setting is superb, being surrounded by inbye fields and fells. The owners are friendly, helpful and patient; despite being exhausted by lambing. The Herdwick lambing season was in full swing in the fields around the house.. a delight to see those tiny black lambs grow and play. This is not a house to bring lively dogs to at this time of year. I hope so much thatI can visit again; we all felt the same.

Beautiful location.....quirky things in the cottage like frying pan was shot, downstairs toilet didn't flush, condenser dryer leaked, couple bulbs were out, hot water wasn't constant, etc. But great location and comfortably furnished.

A cosy cottage in fantastic surroundings. No wifi, but that was exactly the sort of break we were after.

Beautiful little cottage in the most wonderful rural setting. It is is cosy, well equipped and in an absolutely fabulous location. The garden is secure which was ideal for our dogs. It was in a great place for visiting both the lakes and the coast. It is a great place for walking, you can just set off from the door. Highly recommended by us all!

A fantastically secluded cottage, with all mod cons. Beautiful surroundings.

The owners could not have been nicer and friendlier and the cottage was in an amazing and remote location. It has huge potential with a little TLC and investment. We are very surprised it is rated 4 stars - we have stayed in many holiday cottages and this was very basic in comparison - with little in the way of equipment and antiquated appliances. We would love to go back one day, but only if some upgrading is undertaken and perhaps a little more thought and empathy was applied with regard to what is needed and desired by their visitors. We had a list of issues, many of which were addressed promptly, but when we were only provided with one thin tea towel and asked if oven gloves were supplied we were surprised to be told that it was not policy to provide oven gloves - one of many examples where a little thought and empathy would transform the experience of staying at Brighouse.

The property is in a stunning and peaceful location, at the end of its own far track. Full of character & very thoughtfully equipped, it was delightful to be able to climb our very own fells from the front door & the children loved clambering around in the rocky river close to the cottage. Whilst Coniston and Windermere are within easy reach it was lovely to be able to get away from the busy tourist scene back to the peace and tranquility of the cottage and its surroundings.

If you want to get away from it all this is the ideal location. Surrounded by beautiful scenery the only sounds are the river and birds. The house is well equipped, clean and plenty of room for everyone. There is only a weak O2 signal so keeping in touch or using the Internet is difficult.
