Description

This cosy cottage with its warming wood burner is perfect any time of year to explore the beautiful county of Dorset.

This delightful 250-year old, end of terrace cottage sits in the small village of Puncknowle (pronounced ‘Punnel’), just 1½ miles from Chesil Beach and the magnificent Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, with its stunning views. It is a pretty holiday home, suited to couples, and has a wood burner to make it cosy in the colder months. To the east is Weymouth and Portland, the venue for the sailing at the 2012 Olympics, and to the west is picturesque Lyme Regis - a classic British seaside town. Closer to home is Abbotsbury with its famous swannery, and at the end of Chesil Beach sits West Bay, which has been the location for the TV series ’Broadchurch’, where you can find fishing and sight-seeing boat trips. Burton Bradstock, with its beach, majestic cliffs and two renowned restaurants, is just a few miles away. The local town of Bridport has excellent cafés, pubs, a vintage quarter, and a charming twice-weekly street market. Puncknowle is in the heart of West Dorset, so whether you are touring, cycling or walking, or even fishing from the beach, it’s a perfect base. The village has a wonderful, old thatched pub with a very warm welcome and good food, and there is a farm shop just a couple of miles down along the valley for local vegetables, meat, bread and delicious milk from their own Jersey herd. Beach 1½ miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 200 yards.

The cottage was, to be honest, a bit small for us. We are both tall and had to duck to get into the kitchen! Our dogs are also big - albeit quiet and well-behaved, but we did feel a bit cramped. The bedroom and bathroom were very comfortable and efficient. The cottage would be perfect for a couple with little dogs. We loved the proximity to the beaches and Bridport was lively and fun.

The place was as described on the website. The sitting area in the garden is much better than photo shown on the website and fully secured for dog. The bedroom is large and very comfortable. The place is warm even in October. Took no time to warm up. Parking is no problem. Much depends on the pub being opened, did food and to its current standard as there is nothing else to do in the village except for walks.

Didn’t read small print about ‘dog friendly ‘!! Stank of wet dog in lounge. Left on Thursday morning instead of Saturday. Just covered in dog hair too. And the mattress :((

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: Were very sorry indeed to hear that the smell of wet dog was distressing to you. The cottage is clearly designated as dog-friendly in the particulars, so the cleaner does air the cottage and uses air freshener - I regret that this didn't adequately dispel the smell, and the cleaner will take further measures in future to mitigate against dog odours. Thank you for your feedback.

This cottage was advertised as a dog friendly cottage but is not so dog friendly i.e. no dogs on sofa or anywhere upstairs. The cottage was not that clean, hairs in the bath and dust on window cills. No washing machine. The plus points are that it is a minute away from a very good pub, walks from the doorstep and lovely beaches close by. Has an enclosed garden.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner: We are sorry to hear that you didn't feel the cottage to be dog friendly enough. The Welcome Cottages literature, which is held in our cottage folder, specifically states that dogs should be kept off furniture and not allowed upstairs, so we are following their guidelines. The fact that there is no washing machine is clearly stated in the particulars on the website. Were very glad that you liked the location and our wonderful pub-neighbour.

Beautiful cottage and area. Great for our 2 dogs as a completely safe garden for them to sunbathe in! Cottage is well equipped and the upstairs in particular was lovely. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Bride Valley Cottage during August. It was an ideal base for two adults and Jim the Jack Russell being close to lots of dog friendly beaches and amenities. The Crown Inn in the village served excellent food and beer and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The caretaker lives across the road and the owners not far away. All in all lovely place in an amazingly beautiful part of the Country.

A very well presented property and surprisingly spacious for its small size. Has a nice little patio. Very clean and lovely calm atmosphere. All very quiet and peaceful. Really appreciated the tea tray left for us after a long journey. Had only 3 nights as needed somewhere to stay while visiting relatives. Managed to park in the same road as outside of property a little hazardous. Caretaker very kind and helpful. Well placed to visit various beaches/gardens etc.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- We're very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We agree that the parking outside the cottage is slightly tight - we tend to park it as close to the little flowerbed wall as possible - but parking a little way up the road is fine too.
