Scottish Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

On the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, this is an ideal base for those who enjoy wildlife.

Set on a Highland estate spanning 4500 acres with hills rising to 2500ft, these four holiday properties are situated on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park with a wild flower reserve nearby, and an abundance of wildlife including ospreys and huge herds of deer. For 300 years Cistercian Monks spent half of each year at this peaceful place, making butter and cheese and brewing beer from the pure springs that continue to feed the houses. Delightful 18th-century Clover Cottage is reached from its parking area via a short track across a stream. With its own large garden with views towards the great massif of the Grampians. Claypotts is a charming 18th-century cottage, is in an utterly peaceful glen at the heart of the estate with its own enclosed garden on the banks of the River Isla. Croft End Cottage, a 15th-century cottage lies secluded behind double hedges and is a romantic yet fabulously comfortable place perfect for explorers, lovers and honeymooners. Brewlands Cottage is a 17th-century, cosy, very comfortable property in a lovely riverside location with fishing from the garden and views of high hills and surrounding quiet countryside. There are ancient wild flower meadows with rare wild yellow violets and orchids. Red squirrels live around the gardens and the walls support rare ferns and lichens which grow only in unpolluted places. Walking from the door of each cottage. Excellent golf courses at St Andrews, Carnoustie, Gleneagles and Rosemount. Glenshee ski resort is 35 minutes, as is Pitlochry with its theatre, restaurants and kilt and cashmere shops. An adventure centre 20 minutes away, with pony trekking at Balmoral Estate and many castles and stately homes to visit: Balmoral, Glamis, Blair Atholl, Scone Palace and Braemar. Visit the famous Whisky Trail. Riding centre 6 miles. The oldest tree in Europe is in Fortingall, 1 hour. Shops 12 miles, pub 2 miles.

Living/dining room with cast-iron wood-burning stove in stone fireplace, wooden floor, countryside views and country-style kitchen area with granite worktops. Sun porch. Snug with TV. Double bedroom with 6ft bed, cast-iron fireplace and wood-panelled en-suite shower room (power shower) with toilet. Twin bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet.

Beautiful setting with a real 'get away from it all' feel. Cottage well equipped and bed one of the most comfortable, and biggest I've ever slept in. Would have liked a bath, however the hot tub was a nice touch. Cannot recommend this cottage or the local scenery enough

Lovely setting. Though quite remote, it's a good walk to the pub. Beds comfy, nice linens and everything supplied so a big bonus! Elec & oil at the end of stay was hefty, and would obviously prefer it to be included as it normally is. First time I've had to pay extra for this at end of a stay. Living room only seats 3 which is not great to say it's a 4 person cottage. The snug could be so much nicer. At the moment very bleak and uninviting with a tiny TV only set up for DVDs. Missing a trick - could be cosy and would sit the 4 guests easily. Great hot tub! Though the amount of flies was a big shame.

Response on behalf of the owner: Thank you for your comments which always help us to improve the cottage for our guests. The kitchen seats 3 but the sitting room does seat 4 as stated in the particulars. We have taken your comments on board and a large tv will be installed in the sitting room by the end of this week in addition to the large tv already in the kitchen. We will also be upgrading the sitting room for you. you again for taking the time to contact us.

We had a brilliant stay, Simon the caretaker was very helpful. Only criticism is the oil and electric are not included in the price. However this will not stop us staying again. And we are looking to book again. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Just returned from a fantastic week in this beautiful cottage and location. The setting is ideal for a relaxing family holiday. We have two young children who loved the space that the cottage offered but at the same time it still felt cosy in the open plan lounge and kitchen area. Both the shower rooms and bedrooms were very clean, comfortable and the beds provided us with many good nights' sleep throughout our week long stay. The open plan lounge and kitchen meant we were all together during evenings and the games room provided a great space for our children to hang out in! The location of the cottage is ideal. It is in a fairly remote setting yet not too far away from villages and a pub at Glen Isla is just a short drive away. There are excellent walks around the Glen and so many places to visit in the surrounding area. We were lucky to have snow during our stay and so we planned a skiing trip to nearby Glenshee one day. We have stayed in a range of cottages in the UK and I have to say this is one of the best we have ever stayed in. I doubt we would have been able to find one as good as this anywhere in the surrounding area! We were so well looked after by the estate's caretaker (not something we have found with other cottages we have stayed in). The cottage was well equipped and it even had wifi! It had a fantastic hallway where there was lots of space to store coats, wet wellies, walking boots etc. One thing to remember, when planning a visit to this cottage is that the fuel (oil and electricity) you use is charged in addition to the cost of the holiday and is payable at the end of your stay. A complimentary basket of logs awaits your arrival and every basket thereafter is charged at the going rate. It is highlighted on the information page on the booking agent's website. This is often the case in more remote properties. We planned for this before our trip and it didn't make the stay any less enjoyable. In fact we are already planning our next trip to Croftend as we feel it provides everything we need for an absolutely fantastic Scottish break. Thank you Brewlands Estate!
