These semi-detached holiday cottages (refs: W43549 and W43550) are set in the stunning and unspoilt valley of Seathwaite, right in the heart of the English Lake District. They have been beautifully renovated retaining much of their original character with beams and both enjoy lovely views. Set in the middle of the owners working farm, these cottages offer a peaceful retreat for those looking to get away from it all. Surrounded by spectacular scenery this is an excellent spring board for either walking or touring the rugged fells and beautiful lakes. The exciting drive over Hardknott Pass with its breathtaking views is just 10 minutes’ drive away and it leads to Eskdale village and the Cumbrian west coast. The picturesque little towns and villages of Langdale, Ambleside and Broughton-in-Furness are an easy and scenic drive, with the interesting Lakeland towns of Kendal and Ulverston a little further afield. Beach 8 miles. Shop 11/2 miles, pub 1 mile and restaurant 6 miles.

    Was a good base for walking . A different area for us but enjoyed the weeks stay. A fair drive to the normal touristy places so got in a good shop prior to arrival. A couple of nights in the pub...good food. Warm and cosy cottage...mostly equipped with what you need...comfy beds after a good day out on the hills. Pet friendly...always a good thing. No wifi or mobile signal.....but not necessarily a bad thing.

    Unfortunately the weather was not on our side for our stay. Not ideal if you have 2 dogs to keep entertained as doggie toilet facilities are limited with no grass areas just a small contained shared rear courtyard. Walking your dog on the narrow lane leading to and fro to the cottage can be traumatic with certain drivers a tad to familiar with the roads at times. If you want beautiful scenery and an isolated location look no further as this cottage offers all of that.

    Situated on a quiet lane in the quiet Duddon valley, about 1 mile from the Newfield Inn in Seathwaite and 2 mile from the post office/store at Ulpha. The cottage is perfectly sited, with a number of walks straight from the door. Dog friendly (dogs to be kept downstairs and off furniture, as is normal), although at front the parking area is open to the lane, hence your dog cannot be off lead in this area. Off lead walking possible along the River Duddon area on National Trust property, access west opposite the church in Seathwaite. Cottage provides a comfortable base for a good active break - Wallabarrow crag for climbing, Hardknott and Wrynose passes for challenging cycling, anywhere for easy walking - views of the higher fells and sea are great. Friendly and helpful owner lives nearby - I would recommend and will return.

    Bramble Cottage is a lovely cottage. Rooms are large, everything you need is there. The location of the Duddon Valley is very stunning for scenery and exciting country drives. There are are lots of walks in the area and plenty of brochures in the cottage showing you the best places to walk and visit. Check out the pub nearby, Newfield Inn, very local, country pub that does lovely, reasonably priced food. And don't leave it to that last day, like we did! There is no signal for mobiles, but we got used to that, there is a payphone in the kitchen.
