Bramble Cottage is the ultimate holiday home – explore the local beach or nearby attractions before retreating back to relax in the sauna.

These attractive holiday barn conversions are tucked away in the quiet hamlet of Blagdon and situated just under 2 miles to the nearest beach, ideally located for a family holiday, not just in the summer but all year round. The properties have been renovated to a very good standard, with shared use of sauna and outdoor heated swimming pool. Blagdon House Country Cottages (ref 28149 and 28151) can be booked together to accommodate up to 10 guests.
There are many tourist attractions close by including Agatha Christie’s summer home, Babbacombe’s model village and the award-winning Paignton Zoo. The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway runs along the coast to Kingswear, opposite Dartmouth. Take a ferry across to visit Dartmouth with its array of shops and restaurants, take a walk around the castle and enjoy one of the tea shops for a Devon cream tea. Away from the coast there are plenty of places to visit, including the picturesque town of Totnes with some fine 16th-century buildings, and once a week there is a popular market. No trip would be complete without a visit to Dartmoor to climb one of the Tors or just take in the beauty and travel across the moor to Tavistock, where you can enjoy some dramatic scenery. There are many NT properties and plenty of swimming, sailing and angling. Torquay has a lot to offer, such as the Living Coasts, where the penguins wander freely, and the theatre which has shows all year round. Visit the yachting marina and a selection of fine gardens, in addition to Kent’s Cavern where the remains of some of Britain’s very earliest inhabitants were found. Discover the castles, abbeys, wildlife parks, steam trains and model railways, all within easy reach with many open throughout the year. Stoke Gabriel is only 3 miles away, located on the River Dart, whilst Dartingtion is nearby, known for its crystal. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

This property was advertised as within walking distance of local amenities... This was not the case nearly 2 miles to local pub and shop. Used the car several times a day to walk the dog as when we walked up the lane a neighbours dog scared her that much she wouldn't walk up the lane. It was also advertised as dog friendly.. This also not true.... dogs are allowed YES but not allowed upstairs, on the furniture and around the pool so basically was alloted the downstairs floor and a 20 x 12 ft gravelled area. Also so many rules and regulations to follow. Any decent human being would respect and look after someone else's property. But to use the pool you had to take the cover off clean any leaves out and recover when finished. To use the sauna it took 40 mins to warm yet £1 per 30 mins to use ( £2 just to warm it up). Also Laundry room available also at a charge to wash and dry clothes. Iron and ironing board also for use in Laundry. So to sum up feels isolated, not so dog friendly and regimented. The property is what you would expect from a holiday let except the Laundry situation.

    Response from: administrator

Response on behalf of the owner; We are sorry that you were disappointed with your stay in Bramble cottage. We would like to address the points you made. The website doesn't mention walking distances to local amenities - it states that there is a pub within 1 mile, and, indeed, our local pub, the Parker's arms, according to Google maps is 0.9 miles away. It's a shame you didn't get beyond the next door neighbour's dog - she does like to bark, but is well fenced in. The network of little lanes around Blagdon is beautiful, and almost entirely traffic-free, so perfect for dog walking. We like to think of ourselves as dog friendly. The rules regarding dogs on furniture, upstairs and in communal areas are actually within the booking terms and conditions. As such, we don't feel they are unreasonable. Personally, we feel it is important to keep dogs off furniture and carpets in order to keep the cottages nice for future guests. We do not allow dogs in communal areas out of consideration for other guests who may be fearful of or allergic to dogs, also, two sets of guests' dogs meeting is not always harmonious! We do not ask our guests to clear leaves from the swimming pool. In cooler weather, and when most guests are out for the day, or not generally using the pool - we keep the solar gain cover over the pool to keep the water as warm as possible and to reduce water wastage due to evaporation. When this is the case, we give instruction on how to wind the cover off the water before use. We take your point about the heating time for the sauna, and will be replacing one of the heater elements before next season, so the sauna will come to temperature in a much shorter time. We are so sorry you felt like Bramble Cottage was 'isolated, regimented and not dog friendly'. Our feedback from other guests is that they find Blagdon to be a little oasis of rural calm which also manages to be within very short travelling distance of shops and local attractions. Many comments in our visitors’ book thank us for being helpful, friendly hosts, and many guests comment that it is rare to find accommodation of such a high standard that is also happy to accept dogs.
