Description

This pretty cottage has views over the surrounding countryside and a cosy wood burner, making it ideal for any time of the year.

This beautifully presented detached cottage boasts pretty, private gardens with a small orchard, and has lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Braefoot 1860 is quietly situated on the edge of the very attractive conservation village of Straiton, voted one of the ten best villages in Scotland, and featured in the book ’The Most Beautiful Villages of Scotland’. The entire area is known for its gently rolling landscape, its hills dotted with sheep and traversed by the winding River Girvan, and is a hugely popular area with walkers and cyclists of all abilities. Ayrshire is home to the Ayrshire Coastal Path, a 100 mile long coastal walk with one of the finest panoramic coastlines in the British Isles. Crowned with a superb backdrop of the ever-changing profile of the mountains of Arran across the Firth of Clyde, this coastline is rich in wildlife, including red squirrels, deer, otters and seals and is a haven for birdwatchers.
Inland there are gardens and castles to visit, fishing, horse riding, racing and a choice of golf courses, with the world famous Turnberry close to hand. Culzean Castle (owned by the National Trust for Scotland) is spectacular and is Ayrshire’s most popular tourist attraction. Nestled in the heart of ’Burns’ country’ which is steeped in tradition and history, Braefoot is ideal for visiting Burns Cottage, Memorial Museum and the Brig o’ Doon, the bridge from the famous poem Tam o’Shanter, a must for Burns fans. Day trips to Ireland can be taken from Cairnryan and ferry links to the islands of Arran, Bute and Cumbrae are within easy reach. Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh are perfect for a day out, as is Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, or only a short drive away is the traditional seaside town of Ayr. Shop and pub 250 yards, restaurant 4 miles.

A very well appointed cottage beautifully finished and in a tranquil peaceful location. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The cottage is filled with helpful information on how to operate various appliances and fixtures within the home. Well worth a visit !

Terrific cottage, so well equipped with best welcome pack (and welcome) ever! We found the location perfect as we were in the middle of everything so could head out in lots of directions and weren't always having to take the same road which can get a bit boring. The village shop was really handy and well stocked but the pub was a bit of a disappointment. The owner has been trying to sell for ages and only seems to open when it suits him. Great for our dogs as there are a variety of walks straight from the cottage door as well as hundreds more in the wider area. Only thing we'd change was the duvets. I'm sure that they're wonderfully cosy in the winter but in milder months they're very hot and heavy. There were extra sheets to use if you found them too hot but in September you need a bit more than a sheet. We'd definitely stay there again.
