Had a wonderful time here, house was clean and tidy on arrival and had beautiful views of the harbour and sea. The cottage was very spacious, it is a little old fashioned but that is perfectly suited to the area that it is in and we wouldn't of wanted it any other way! We will certainly be looking to come back here again.

Polperro is a beautiful location to holiday. The cottage itself is situated on a rather steep hillside, which provides spectacular views over the village.Yes it's difficult to get to, the drive to Brackenside is through typically Cornish countryside lanes (single lane with passing places) and yes parking isn't ideal, but this is Cornwall and so this is what you should really expect. If you're not the most confident of drivers, then maybe this cottage isn't for you. Brackenside is spacious and dog friendly. But just because it's dog friendly doesn't mean that you have to compromise on the basics, such as cleanliness , having to use furniture that is broken and that all important thing safety. It would seem that many past visitors have complained about a broken settee for over 12 months.I have to report it's still there as of October 2015. Being a couple with a dog, this wasn't an issue as there are others places to sit.The decor is dated, the artwork somewhat creepy (again according to the visitors book the Victorian portraits have been upsetting small children..and older ones too!)Read the visitors book please, an update is needed throughout the cottage with replacement artwork! We were without hot water for nearly a day. The heating was hit and miss, warm enough downstairs but not up where they didn't work, which led us to use the electric heater which promptly blew the fuse.In this day and age everything needs to be tested, seems that certain items are a couple of years out of date.Do any of the rental companies actually check the condition of the cottages on their books or are they just happy to take our money I wonder? We'd would have certainly been disappointed if we had paid full price for a summer holiday in July/August and had small children in our party. It certainly could have been better, but for a couple with a dog it made an ideal base if nothing else. It's a really shame that the owner doesn't actually respond in a positive manner instead of writing negative comments about those that complain. Would we go again? No. Would we go back to Polperro? Very defiantly, a beautiful Cornish fishing village and a holiday destination not to be missed.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We appreciate that access to properties in Polperro is not easy but the narrow lanes and steep hills are a feature of Cornwall. However we are surprised that our furniture is considered unsafe. The settee in question has been repaired. In terms of cleanliness we will certainly talk to our cleaner to see if anything can be improved here. Generally most people appreciate her efforts, especially the cream tea on arrival! Visitors may like to know that each year improvements have been made to the property. For example all windows at the front of the house were replaced one year and at the back the following year. Next we had the kitchen totally revamped, and last year both flat roofs were replaced. This year during the winter months, we will refurbish the bathroom, introducing a separate shower rather than the present arrangement which is incorporated in the bath. Next year we are planning to replace the main roof, following all the serious storms that have battered Cornwall recently. We recognise that further improvements can always be made and this is reflected in the ‘affordable’ rates that we charge for staying in such a spacious property. Brackenside is seen as more like a comfortable home and is reflected in its 3 star grading rather than a 5* guest house and most of our guests appreciate this. We have a good number who return each year.
