Description

Just half an hour from Durham city yet located in idyllic countryside where guests have use of a games room, indoor pool, sauna and hot tub.

These delightful semi-detached cottages are holiday homes situated in the heart of County Durham, located near the idyllic countryside village of Wolsingham, in the Durham Dales. Each cottage offers you the remoteness of a country retreat with shared indoor swimming pool, hot tub and sauna, there is also a games room with full size snooker table. There are limited private pool sessions available which can be booked directly with the owner, and these must be booked 7 days in advance. Whether you choose to take in the scenic countryside that County Durham has to offer, or are looking for a quiet retreat, this is an ideal holiday base. Just minutes away are Tunstall Reservoir and Hamsterley Forest, with bike riding, horse riding and many other activities. Kilhope Lead Mining Centre and Beamish Museum are close by, as is a real snow ski lift. Located around 30-minutes from the historic city of Durham with its World Heritage site status, cathedral and castle. Visit Hadrian’s Wall, Lake District National Park and the beautiful north east coastline. Shop, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

The property is situated only a short drive from Bishop Auckland which plays host to the magical Kynren Eleven Arches spectacular from July-September 2016. Kynren - an epic tale of England - promises to be a historical extravaganza with a case of over 1,000 people set over 7.5 acres of County Durham. We had a fantastic week at Brancepeth Cottage. It was an ideal location to explore the northern Pennines and thankfully we were blessed with super weather and breathtaking scenery. It was a magical touch being able to share family time in the exclusive periods we had either end of the day in the pool . Wifi available but not brilliant which pushed You Tube and Facebook out of reach and crated evenings of board games and cards - super fun (although I believe faster broadband is on it's way) Tony and Viv were excellent hosts who were available when required but otherwise in the background which is how we like it.

This was our second stay in this cottage, since then we have tried to book again but was unsuccessful. However we are now staying in one of the other cottages on the site, Auckland. Says it all I think!
