A great escape for couples or a small family, spend a day at Woolacombe beach for some seaside fun.

Lower Aylescott Cottages (refs 29396, 29490, 29491, 29607, 30032 and UKC162) are located just outside the village of West Down, in the stunning North Devon countryside. The cottages are ideal for couples and smaller parties during the quieter months and are well suited for families during the school holidays. The extensive well-maintained grounds benefit from two fishing lakes and a children’s play area. There are walks around the grounds as well as some local footpaths. Lower Aylescott Cottages are all well-equipped and furnished to a good standard. The nearby village has a pub and local shop. The properties are very well-located to explore all North Devon has to offer. The renowned beach at Woolacombe is a short distance away, as well as the famous surfing beach at Croyde. For something a bit more rugged, head out to Crow Point and the sand dunes of Braunton Burrows, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The nearest large town is the seaside resort of Ilfracombe. Enjoy an ice cream down at the harbour and see the Damian Hirst sculpture at the harbour entrance called Verity. There is also the Tunnels Beach and the Landmark Theatre, as well as a good range of shops and restaurants. Other local places of interest include Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Watermouth Castle and the Lynton to Lynmouth funicular railway, which all make for a good day out. Exmoor is a short distance away and on a clear day the views can be spectacular. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knightshayes, and the RHS gardens at Rosemoor and Great Torrington. On site fishing is available, no licence is required, however please bring your own rods. Shop and pub 1 mile.

Stopped at Blair Cottage in June 2018 and it was a quiet, ideal place to stop with my small family. Its in a very very beautiful location. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and the cottage very clean and well equipped. The only downside is that it is literally in the middle of nowhere. And the road leading to it is possibly the steepest road I have ever seen that goes around 2 hairpins.

Great little place in lovely location. Only thing we were sort of unhappy about was that on photos it showed a small private courtyard garden which was not anything to do with our space. We had a table and chairs in a public courtyard. Everything else was great. Wi fi wasn’t great also but if your going to be away from everything shouldn’t affect you.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at Blare Cottage and found the cottage and its location to your liking. There are two photographs of the exterior: One is of the seating area at the front door of Blare Cottage which is within a courtyard setting with our other cottages. The other is of our 4 1/2 acres of beautiful grounds which are for all our guests to enjoy. The Wi-Fi is very good. There was a brief interruption to the signal in the area during your stay. As soon as we were made aware of this we reset the Wi-Fi immediately and it resumed to excellent strength. We do appreciate you taking the time to write and I am sure if you view the photographs on the website again you will realise your error. Nevertheless, it is lovely that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back to Lower Aylescott Cottages in the future.

Well out of the way of noise and traffic, but easy access to the North Devon coast, and a good base for sightseeing. The cottage was warm, clean, and perfectly adequate for a laid-back break. Would definitely check its availability next time we decide to go to the area.
