We had a very enjoyable stay at Birdforth. The size and number of rooms was perfect for our party of 10 adults and 7 children and the swimming pool was an excellent addition. However, we felt the house was tired and in need of some redecoration. Most of the bedrooms were of excellent size and in good order with new windows, but others were dirty and needed replacing. One bathroom in particular needs some updating, The downstairs was spacious and some items of furniture needed attention. We had a resident mouse which seemed to be in either the kitchen or the small snug just of it, we think he was living somewhere in the snug!!!! We appreciate that we were in the country, but this was not what we had expected.

Lovely house, clean, large and tidy. Good layout of bedrooms/bathrooms etc. Plenty of kitchen ware etc tho cooker in the 2nd kitchen didnt work properly all the time and not everyone familiar with the Aga system in the main kitchen. TV/DVD and Internet connection rather spasmodic tho prompt attention when we rang thru to cleaning company. Swimming Pool was a bonus tho our allotted times to use were not ideal and as all the holiday cottages on site were booked, maybe 56 people all wanting to use it, there was no room to swim. . Disappointed the grass in the back garden was tall and had not been cut for a while but the gardener appeared on our last day! As we paid arguably the highest price for a July/August week, thought the grass should have been cut earlier. Altho there are no amenities within walking distance, there is a wealth of activities/pubs in a short drive away from the house. The family all loved it and would definitely stay again! Well done!

We booked the house due to proximity to York, number of bedrooms and the swimming pool facility. We really enjoyed the pool and table tennis and the rota worked well. Inside the house the beds were clean and comfortable, but the living areas are due a good spring clean. We were shocked at the state of the historic windows which have been left to erode through the years and there is a gaping hole around the leaded window frame of the wooden living room. There were plenty of games for us to play indoors - it would have been nice if cooking basics such as salt had been left by previous guests. It is not great access for those who wish to walk anywhere from the house. All said, we had a great holiday and achieved our aim of spending time together as a family

Lovely imposing property with plenty of space for the young children to run about inside and out. The grounds were particularly impressive with plenty of space for games plus, at more tranquil times, the joy of the incessant bird song. The swimming pool was a particular hit with the youngsters.

Extremely basic property, run down and in need of redecoration and modernisation. Very poor value for money.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review. We are very disappointed and surprised you did not enjoy your stay at Birdforth Hall. This is a very old house, full of history and because of this the decor is not as 'modern' as our other properties at Birdforth. We have tried to maintain its 'period' feel and the integrity of the building as a whole. However, we have had three new bathrooms and a second kitchen fitted in recent years. We regularly update our properties and to this end the Hall is to have a new carpet in the hallway and corridor and the two largest bedrooms are to be decorated in the coming months.

Birdforth Hall is a spacious house with lovely gardens and an amazing pool. There was lots of room for everyone. The bedrooms were of a high standard with lovely linen and huge, new towels. Generally in the rest of the house things could do with updating. The equipment was a bit second rate (no pan lids, blunt knives, broken vacuum cleaner etc) although the crockery and glass ware were plentiful.

We had a great time at Birdforth hall, the accommodation was large enough for our family celebration, we used it as a base and venture to York and Scarborough. The swimming pool was great fun for all ages. My only criticism would be that it needs a little updating now with paint and carpet downstairs, but can not fault the cleanliness of the home. Would I go back again and recommend it, yes I would!

A perfect venue for a 70 th birthday celebration. Room for all the family and a few friends to get together in a spacious, warm and well equipped house. The swimming pool was an added bonus especially enjoyed by the grand children.

We enjoyed Christmas there very much. It was very cosy despite the size. Unfortunately both the dishwashers broke down and there was endless washing up and the electrics shorted out. The problems couldn't be fixed until after the holiday when we were due to leave but the response was immediate and courteous. It would be lovely to return there in the summer months

We had a brilliant time at Birdforth hall. The accommodation was a perfect size for us all. Plenty of room for everyone and the garden was a great place for games and running around for the children . The pool and table tennis table was a fantastic addition to our stay too. Fantastic weekend.
