Our 2nd time at mill house. Love the location, pool, space and number of bathrooms! It’s clean and housekeeping staff available and friendly. In order for this farmhouse to be outstanding the owner needs to invest in a little more equipment in the kitchen in the way of large saucepans etc and one of the bathrooms had a constant bad smell. However I think we will be back.

We have stayed here twice now, although quite expensive we have had a wonderful time. We have children with us so the use of the pool is a godsend they absolutely loved every minute of it. Fantastic for special occasions where a large group of people want to be together to celebrate, great for quality time with the family.

Booked for family of 15. Plenty of space for all. The grand-kids loved it and were sad when the holiday was over. Staff were very helpful and returned my daughter's bracelet which she accidentally left behind.

It was one of the best holidays I have been on. The Mill House was very clean when we arrived & the caretakers couldn't do enough for you to ensure that you were happy with the place and comfortable. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

A great venue for a family celebration and as a base to explore North Yorkshire. The property is spacious and well equipped and children and adults alike enjoyed the pool (we chose this property largely because of the pool facility) and table tennis. The setting is lovely and the grounds are very well maintained and although adjacent to the A19 the property is set back far enough in our opinion for any road noise to be negligible. All the en-suites were a great size, most with bath and shower, and having two downstairs toilets was also useful. If we were to have a 'grumble' about anything it would be that one of the upstairs bedrooms had an eggy unplesant odour for a couple of nights (largely resolved by running taps and ventilating the room) and that some upstairs furniture could do with an update and bed frames tightening. One sofa in the large lounge seemed to have lost its support to the seat cushioning. In a premium priced property these items just let the house down a little. The company that maintain the cottages were very helpful and attended to any issues we raised promptly and as best they could. We enjoyed visits to Thirsk Races and surrounding villages including Hemlsley and the National Centre for Birds of Prey at Helmsley is also well worth a visit. So much that we didn't get to see this time round so we would love return. Would we stay at this site again? - YES!

Cottage was large and fitted all 16 of our family, grandparents, mums & dads and 6 grandchildren. The large dining table and large lounge meant we could all eat and talk together. Some refurbishment is required like carpets & furniture. Otherwise it would be 10 All round. The pool is a great plus.

Good sized house and the pool was a plus. The house does not have a homely feel- the main lounge is tired and set up like a care home! Poor quality furnishings- very uncomfortable beds, sofas look as if they're old unwanted junk that the owners have decided to use, dishwasher doesn't work, ovens do not work well. Poor maintenance within the house- beware of screws sticking out of drawers! For saying it had been cleaned the house was quite dirty with cobwebs and spiders all over! One of the bedrooms is unusable because of the foul smell of the septic tank coming through the drainage. Beware of the £300 damage deposit you are made to pay beforehand, and make sure you look for and report ANY damage as soon as you arrive as you will most likely be accused of doing it and charged for this and not get your money back. Unacceptable waste disposal- we struggled to empty our bins as the outside waste bins were that full we could not put our bags in them. People in the other houses had put their rubbish on the floor and this was blowing around and was a risk to our kids playing outside and most likely be attracting rats and foxes. Poor location- you can't walk anywhere as it's off a fast, busy road so you have to drive everywhere. We enjoyed our time together as a family but was very disappointed with The Mill House.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your review relating to your stay at the Mill House in April. Bearing in mind your initial review where you graded us 9 and commented on the facilities being "brilliant" and having two kitchens "really helpful", we were disappointed, but not surprised, you felt the need to change your grading on the basis you were asked to pay for the not-inconsiderable damage caused by your party during your stay. As owners we feel it is important to maintain our high standards (which are ratified by so many of our guests) which is why we take a damage deposit in order to recoup the costs needed to make good injuries to the house unfortunately caused by less fastidious guests.

What a lovely house! It really suited our needs; a group of 14 ( women) friends. One of our ladies is confined to a wheelchair and everything was absolutely fine for her too. The surrounding area has so much to do and see we were spoilt for choice. We will definitely return again.
