The cottage itself was very nice, barring a peculiar smell (fish?) in the dresser where crockery is kept. Broadband Internet was unavailable for all but a few hours of the whole week. This was not a huge problem but we have a teenager who was put out, plus we would have liked to have been able to use Netflix in the evenings. We incurred some additional cost as a result. The owner made a reasonable attempt to see if the router was the problem but concluded it must be to do with a service outage. Okay. What cause us real problems was an intermittent drop in water pressure which we noticed two to four times a day, from the second or third day. Each time it occurred without warning and lasted for about an hour, meaning that taps (including bath and shower) upstairs did not run at all and downstairs taps were reduced to a trickle. To make things worse, this seemed to co-incided with times we wanted to run baths or showers. In one instance our 5yo tried to wash his hands at 6:30am and was unable to rinse the soap off. Not a great start to the day! Availability of hot water also seemed to be impacted. Again, the owner waved this off as a problem with the water company who they guessed were doing works in a nearby town and reducing the pressure as part of this. We accepted this the first time it happened but became less and less satisfied with the explanation as the week went on. We took the liberty of calling the water company who confirmed there were no such works and no known problems, except that a call out had been arranged to the farm next door (the owner's dwelling) a couple of days prior (co-inciding with our first report of problems). We feel very much like we've been fobbed off and the issue with the water should be owned by the proprietor. It cast a shadow over the stay and we would certainly not choose to stay there again, let alone recommend it. We suspect as well that problems with the internet were likely to have been a permanent feature rather than bad luck. We appreciate that intermittent services are a feature of a remote location, but had we known how unreliable they would be we would simply not have chosen this cottage and we would most certainly not have paid what we did.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I'm sorry that you were dissatisfied with your stay at Bills Cottage. The dresser has only ever been used for crockery from new; I myself cannot detect a smell of fish, or anything else for that matter. Perhaps it is the Osmo oil the wooden top is treated with, however no one has ever mentioned it before. As it clearly states on the booking form, broadband cannot be guaranteed, and the rural broadband is notoriously slow and unreliable, certainly not up to the speeds enjoyed in most towns and cities. The fault was reported to BT as soon as we were made aware of it. The problem with the water was experienced by the whole village, not just the farm. As we explained when we came round to update you, Thames Water had been experiencing problems due to works on the main and a new installation at the booster station, and the reason that the call out was to my home was because the whole farm property is served by one meter, and this is the registered address for billing. Whilst I am sorry that you have been inconvenienced, I'm sure that you will appreciate that both of these issues were outside my control and we have done the utmost to get them resolved.

The cottage had every facility required. It was warm, clean and comfortable and the owners even left us a homemade cake. The owner made herself available and asked several times if we had any problems. Excellent

Our first visit to The Cotswolds and what a first class choice was Bills Cottage. Reached all expectations and more. Ideally situated for the interesting areas. We visited 4 National Trust properties and favourite market towns are Chipping Camden, Burford and Broadway. Would definitely recommend Bills Cottage .

Beautiful cottage in quiet surroundings, Mary made us very welcome and the extra touches of cake, eggs and flowers on arrival were lovely. We all loved meeting the horse and dogs . It was in an excellent location as so many of the Cotswold attractions were within a few miles. I would highly recommend Bills Cottage and if ever we are in the area again this would be our first and only choice of accommodation.

One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. Very well equiped and a very warm welcome and hospitality of Mary and James. A tour on the property is highly recommended. The cotswold was a thrill as well. Hence we fell in love.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Bill's Cottage and this stay was as great as the first. The welcome pack was lovely, beautiful cake! The location is spot on as it is central to everything, but also nice and peaceful. Well done Mary!

This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. So much to do in the local area - lots of walking and loads of attractions for both adults and children. Our one and three-year-old boys loved our holiday here. Mary was so helpful and friendly, and Buttons the pony was a big hit! It was clean and comfortable and well-quipped. We would definitely stay here again if visiting the area (which I'm sure we will do sometime because one week is not enough time to see everything!) We found having a travel cot and high chair available a great bonus to save space in our car too.
