At the end of a long, tree-lined driveway this beautiful holiday house sits in the most stunning grounds

At the end of a long, tree-lined driveway this beautiful holiday house sits in the most stunning grounds. A graceful, almost formal garden separates the gîte from the owner’s equally beautiful adjoining home and the mature trees and box hedging provide the perfect shade for a stroll. The partially beamed house itself, once part of an old fruit farm, has been converted into a very elegant home. The Lot-et-Garonne area offers a perfect place to relax and there are lots of interesting things to see and do. Tonneins stands above the River Garonne and was once the tobacco capital of France. It is a pleasant town with several cafés, bars, individual shops, a large post office and three supermarkets. Agen is a bustling town with many restaurants and great shopping. Villeneuve-sur-Lot has a market every Tuesday and Saturday morning, whilst Marmande, famous for its tomatoes, holds a tomato festival every July.

Approximate distance to Bergerac airport is 60 km.

Wonderful holiday, the pool was a real highlight of the holiday. Great size for a party of 8. Top floor of the barn was stunning, the galleried library area was luxurious and the master bedroom was incredible. However it was a real shame the other two bedrooms on the top floor were large enough for a double bed but only had 'large' singles in them, meaning our children were in our room as there was no room for them in either of the two bedrooms. The main gripe however was the tiny outdoor dining table - and the configuration of downstairs. It sadly didn't work for our family because we all want to dine together and the table outside was a small four seater. So we had to do 'sittings' and occasionally eat indoors on a lovely hot sunny day. This really needs to be thought through because we won't be revisiting until this is addressed. Not being able to dine with all our friends and family because there is no large seating area near the pool is a real problem when the point of being on holiday is to be/eat/hang out alfresco. Also the kitchen is tiny, dark and badly equipped. One minute dishwasher and antequated utensils added to the frustration. There was only one tiny chopping board and no worktop space. In addition the fridge was not working properly. Meat we put in there ended up stinking after a few days and was thrown away. Nothing was cold enough and everything had to be frozen first then thawed. A real hassle. With regards to the configuration, it would be better to knock the living room, dining room, downstairs bedroom and kitchen through and make one nicer living area. The owners however are just lovely, but be aware they are right next door and can be seen/they can see you, every day. If this doesn't bother you then that's fine but if you need privacy on your holiday this won't suit you. Also the washing machine and tumble drier is shared with the owner, again this is fine if you don't mind constantly bumping into them and awaiting your turn to use the laundry room. Regardless though thanks to the stunning pool area, hot and gorgeous weather and peaceful location, we had a wonderful time, and will return if these additional issues are addressed.
