Another wonderful week in Bend or Bump. Fantastic characterful cottage in a great location. We'd buy it if we could, but think someone else has already beaten us to it!

Although we enjoyed our week fell walking, the bump in the upstairs hallway is quite dangerous, I suggest moving the double bed to the room nearest the bathroom, we ended up using the twin beds as going to the toilet in the middle of the night was lethal (especially after a pint or two at the Sun). Also the kitchen stank of dog. Both the kitchen and bathroon leave a lot to be desired. Although it was not anyone connected to the cottages fault there was a building site out the front necessitating speaking to the builder every time we wanted to get the car off the drive, and the front of the cottage was covered in mud!

Fairly basic but well situated for both the fells and the village.

The cottage was not very clean and the photo from the outside looked nothing like it was in reality. The best feature of the cottage was the comfy beds.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your reply I have slightly edited the response, please see below and confirm if you are happy for us to submit it for you. We take the cleanliness of the cottage very seriously and will talk to our cleaner about this guests' comment. However, more specific information about cleanliness, would have been helpful. The comment about the photo of the outside of the property not looking anything like the reality is puzzling because a photo, give or take a little distortion depending on the choice of lens focal length, is an accurate depiction of the subject. What the photo does not show, that many guests appreciate, is the wonderful view of the fells from the back door. We are pleased that the guest enjoyed the high quality, "comfy beds". Our thanks to this guest for her feedback but I feel the comments are rather too vague to be helpful to us or other guests who may read it.

Second time we have stayed here and this was even better than the first. Some points could do with improving such as upgrading the kitchen and there were a lot of dog hairs left on the rug in the hall. Overall though, this is a great place to stay and is like stepping back in time. This feeling is common throughout the village with quaint, welcoming pubs and village shops.

The cottage was in a great position. Car parking a bit tight. Lovely view from patio area. Close to the village and all amenities and right on the path to The Old Man of Coniston. Comfortable beds and good shower. Very quaint and nice to have an open fire well supplied with coal.

Enjoyed the week very much, with quick access to walks and amenities - couldn't have been better placed. The proximity to a large hotel/pub had no negative effect - nothing could be heard. The beam which you have to bend under can still catch you out until used to it: we draped a towel over it, which provided better warning. The caretakers left a note saying a main bedroom light was out; could not replacement bulbs be more available, or kept in store?
