With four poster beds, piano, pool table and elegant décor; Ben Venue is a truly charming property. Even celebrities have holidayed here!

Steeped in history, Ben Venue is an imposing listed Victorian house built in 1890, once owned by the brother of A.R Johnson wax polish empire of America. Ben Venue (HKKB) is attached to Lemon Tree Cottage (HMMS) and the owner’s apartment. In Ben Venue (HKKB), many original features are still evident, with a very grand staircase, and large chandeliers throughout as well as high ceilings which add to the charm and character of this most beautiful property. It is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, from the piano in the entrance to the four-poster beds, the large bathroom and en-suite shower rooms. There have been many famous celebrities who have visited the property over the years and enjoyed many a game of snooker on the full size snooker table - see all the photos adorning the walls including Ray Reardon, Max Bygraves and Bobby Davro to name but a few. All of the rooms have elegance about them; there are huge picture windows, and sea views from the ground and first floors. Lemon Tree Cottage has its own entrance and is also decorated to a high standard from Italian marble floors to beautiful furnishings. Torquay has so much to offer and these are the perfect properties for family get-togethers, friends reunited and celebrations. There are 22 miles of coastline, cliffs, coves, beaches and walks, with opportunities for surfing, swimming, diving, sailing, angling and to study the natural wildlife at leisure. Stunning views are to be seen just about everywhere across the bay, out over the English Channel, along the 40 miles of Lyme Bay to Portland Bill or inland towards the tors of Dartmoor. Torquay is an ideal base from which to visit Dartmouth, Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth. It is a place to relax, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy a holiday in a classic English seaside resort. An excellent place to stay for a large group or family as plenty of room to spread out and the snooker room was a real hit in the evenings. Slightly faded grandeur, but that only added to the charm. An enormous house!

We had a lovely stay. Kay allowed us in bit early and we were very pleased with the tour of the house. It was accurately reflected on your website. The property is spacious and has lovely bedrooms. Dining in the conservatory was lovely on a nice evening. The snooker went down well also. It is about a 10-15 min walk to the harbour .... not too bad going as its downhill .... good for the heart coming back up hill!! Shame the trees at the front of the house block out a bit of the sea view, but there are still lovely views from most windows. We would definitely consider staying here again if we returned with a large group to Torquay.

There's a very small thing that needs to be remarked. To get in one of the rooms you must cross another room. That needs to be mentioned in the description.

A wonderful place and a fantastic landlady. It is a very large house, that could do with a bit of updating..??? Ie showers were not brilliant, but not awful either. We had one day of rain and we all felt totally relaxed just chilling and doing whatever in the house. When the price ( we went mid august) is divided by twelve people, it is very cheap, for everything. All clean sheets, towels etc etc. Fully equipped kitchen. Landlady/owner is in attached property, but will not bother you unless you have a problem or want you want a chat. A biggy is, unless you have a car, it is quite a walk to a bus stop and is on top of quite a long steep hill.....if you have mobility problems. We would not hesitate at all to recommend this place. It has it's quirky side and also it's cared for grandeur side. We would.......sorry, will, be returning.
