English Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

Situated in a beautiful countryside area, this character filled property is a great base for exploring the local area.

Located down a quiet lane in beautiful 1066 countryside, this charming holiday cottage dates back to 1750 and was originally the home of the gardener to the Ashburnham Estate. Sympathetically restored, it adjoins another property and offers an abundance of character features, with oak doors, low beams and an inglenook fireplace. Within a short drive lie the coastal towns of Hastings, Rye and Bexhill, with historic Battle just 3 miles away. Battle offers restaurants and lovely tea rooms, along with shops and the ruined abbey - you will never be short of something to do. Several castles, beaches, railways, museums and National Trust houses and gardens to visit close by. Locally there are many beautiful walks to enjoy or sit on the cottage patio and enjoy the quietness of the countryside. There is no need to drive too far as there is a restaurant and pub in the village, as well as village shops close by. Although the cottage dates back to 1750 it is comfortable and cosy with good size bedrooms and a very large living room and dining area. The inglenook is just waiting for you to light the fire and a basket of logs is provided for guests, along with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits in the kitchen. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.

Beamed living room with large inglenook fireplace and exposed stone surround. Step down to beamed dining area with parquet floor. Two steep steps to fitted galley-style kitchen with sloping ceiling and shower room with toilet and sloping ceiling. Two double bedrooms, one with 6ft bed and additional single bed (for +1 small child).

Found the cottage extremely comfortable and well equiped. We felt at home immediately. My 3 year old is still talking about her holiday home with the red door.

Pretty cottage in a perfect position for visiting Great Dixter, Sissinghurst Castle, Battle Abbey, Romney Marsh, Herstmonceaux Castle, Rye, Hastings, Pevensey and Bexhill-on-sea - yes we went to them all! The cottage was well furnished and the beds were very comfortable. The quirky nature of the architecture meant that after the first day my daughter and I were suffering from minor concussion from the very low door frames and by the end of the week we had a permanent stooped posture but we are both 5' 10" plus! Don't leave your bedroom window wide open at night or you will be visited by the (very affectionate) small cat from across the lane!

Nice location, the cottage is ok except a fiew things who could be better. washingmachine is not usefull, dishwasher would be better. i've missed a coffeemaker. it's impossible to shave yourself in the bathroom, electricity missing No direct way to the terras.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. Washing machine must be provided as terms and conditions of English Country Cottages to meet our star rating. There was a coffee machine which unfortunately was removed by a previous guest. I have now replaced it. The cottage was built in 1750 it is so very difficult to change electrics in bathroom without major disruption.
