Description

Ideally located for coast to coast footpath, this spacious cottage, with French doors, is within easy reach of Edinburgh.

Enjoying an idyllic situation on the 33,000-acre Douglas Estate, surrounded by open countryside and panoramic views, these three attached holiday cottages, set within a courtyard, have been renovated and furnished to a 5 star standard and provide excellent accommodation from which to explore the surrounding areas. Woodland walks are available direct from the door, and the Southern Upland Way, Scotland’s coast to coast long distance walk, runs close by. It is an ideal base for hill walking, fishing, wildlife and bird-watching, sightseeing or one of the many country estate pursuits available locally. Nearby Biggar has an array of specialist shops, pubs, eateries, Victorian-style puppet theatre, museums, boating and paddling pools, tennis courts and the famous Hogmanay bonfire and street party. Within easy reach are the cities of Edinburgh, with Scotland’s most famous castle dominating the city skyline, world-class museums, galleries, restaurants and bars, and Glasgow, a vibrant bustling city and home to the Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera. Shops 7 miles, pub 2 miles.

Centrally located for the activities that we had planned to do, including a trip to Arran, a day spent at New Lanark (which turned into a day and a half) and an outing to Biggar to visit The Gas Works Museum. Cottage was a joy to return to after a days exertions.

We had a good stay but we felt the kitchen was a bit under provisioned, it was tricky not having any washing up liquid and hand soap in any of the bathrooms. The knives aren't very good! Shane there were no logs and we missed the lack of the local walks leaflet that the visitor guide said was there. But all in all a great stay, the problem we had with the heating was addressed right away and the house was lovely and comfortable.

A lovely comfortable clean cottage with good amenities. Incredibly warm if its cold outside, with lovely views around the cottage. A good time was had by all.

Great cottage in a great location - feels remote but easy to access Glasgow, Edinburgh, Lowlands and even Loch Lomond if you don't mind a drive. We wanted to book again for Easter but it was already booked!
