It was too close to the owners who were quite noisy first thing in a morning.we got charged £6 for a bag of logs which was supposed to be complimentary. The owner rang us when we got back and said had we accidentally packed a stone pan, which we found very insulting.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We were disappointed to read your review following your recent stay at Beck Gate. We are aware that guests are on holiday and we do our best to be as unobtrusive as possible. We have been running this cottage for 24 years and nobody has said it has been noisy, in fact, many guests comment how peaceful and relaxing their stays are. The first basket of logs is provided free of charge. We had the fire built up and running which we had paid £6.00 to get you going, the charge of £6.00 was for the second bag of fuel which was in the cottage waiting for you. We had just purchased two brand new stone finish frying pans a week or so prior to your booking however after you left, we could only find the one. We did contact you to ask if the pan had accidentally been packed away with your personal belongings, which you advised was not the case.

A beautiful part of England to relax in without the everyday distractions of mobiles and social media. The cottage is absolutely stunning and nothing was too much trouble for the owner. Would definitely stay there again.

Lovely hosts. Lovely location. Cottage did have a damp smell. One pot had dried food in, cutlery a little dirty. Hot water taps and system all a little basic. Shower head never stayed in place. Should be 3 star not 4. Don't get me wrong though, we loved our stay. Made it cost in the evening with the fire. A good tv. Sofa not that big. Shame there wasn't a fenced in garden for the dog. A great stay. Lovely hosts. Cottage just a little more basic than we were expecting for a 4 star place.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your comments. Though I am disappointed that despite some positives the scores are low. There is no damp smell, however if guests don't open windows to let steam out after a shower then it will smell damp. That particular weekend was one of the hottest. I would like to point out that admission time to the cottage is 4pm and these guests requested to arrive at 12 with the booking office. They then arrived at 2pm and advised they didn't know and could they leave their luggage, we unfortunately had to decline as the cottage was still being cleaned but they could leave their bikes outside, so they went off for a couple of hours. Prior to these guests’ arrival we had a brand new shower head/hose fitted. The hot water does run off a cylinder as there is limited space, however hot water is available for guests to use as they wish. The cottage was immaculately clean, all the cutlery, pans, crockery etc. is washed in a dishwasher after every guest leaves. At no time did they say they had any complaints and I always ask if everything is OK. On the following day despite the guests being told they couldn't leave their dog unattended they went on a bike ride for 2.5 hrs. Their dog barked and howled most of the time they were away. It came to the point my Daughter was going to go in and get the dog out as it was distressed. This is in breach of the booking terms and conditions. This cottage was graded by a Wyndham’s representative in accordance with Visit England and has been used by many people for over 20 years with many repeat guests.
