We had a wonderful week at Barton School House it is a unique property and very comfortable and warm, everything was to hand. We had my elderly mother with us and with it being all on one level, this helped considerably. The School House is in a wonderful setting overlooking open fields and it just made our holiday seeing a red squirrel visiting the garden most mornings. It is also situated in a lovely village and is in an ideal location to explore the Lake District. Definitely hope to return again and would highly recommend this very interesting property which has so much character and history attached to it

This was our first trip to the Lake District, but will now be the first of many! We took the opportunity from this base to explore Ullswater, Keswick and Windemere and think that Ullswater is the best of the bunch by far! Peace and tranquility, friendly people, and beautiful surroundings that words can't do justice. Barton School House was lovely - both to look at and live in. It's been so well appointed and is a smashing combination of practicality and comfort. The house was warm and cosy, for which we were grateful in the depths of winter! It's very well laid out and has everything a family could want in terms of practical holiday family living. It wasn't so formal that we worried about a little mud on our shoes, which meant we were relaxed as well as comfortable. Location-wise, it's within walking distance of Pooley Bridge, which we think is the best of the lake-based villages. The cottage is a joy to stay in and we hope to return soon.
