Description

A renovated cottage on a working farm with idyllic views of fells. A short stroll from the lake and amenities with further attractions at Penrith – 6 miles.

Minutes from Lake Ullswater

Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

This was our fourth visit to Barton Hall Farm and, as always, the cottage was superb - warm, clean and so cosy with the log fire in the evenings. The owners, Amanda and Nigel, are a lovely couple, very welcoming but never intrusive. Nigel has made a doggy shower which is great after a muddy walk with Misty our dog! The flowers and scones upon arrival, the great walk-in shower, lovely beds and fantastic views from the cottage make it a very memorable holiday. We can't wait to return to our favourite cottage in the Lake District!

Such a welcoming home from home vibe in this cottage. Cosy cosy and well equipped. Hosts were just lovely and I would definitely recommend anyone to go. The 9/10 was only because I couldn't see the lake but gosh the mountains made up for it! Fabulous....

Beautiful family cottage. Fully equipped with everything you could want. Very friendly owners & daily visits from tess the dog. Grandchildren loved it as did the dog. Thinking of booking again next year.

Lovely property in beautiful location. The only slight negative would be the size of the living accommodation which is cosy for a party of 6. Bedrooms and bathrooms ideal. Owners on site friendly and helpful.

Pros: Friendly welcome from both Amanda & Nigel. Scones and preserve left for our arrival, which was a nice touch. The cottage was also lovely and warm at all times. Bedrooms were exceptionally lovely with comfy beds. It was quite cold and windy for the majority of our stay as April time, but we could imagine how pleasant it would be, to sit in the garden area at the back of the cottage on a sunny evening, with the lovely views across the fields. It was lambing time, and the farm was very busy. Nigel invited us all to the lambing shed to see the new born lambs and calves which was great for our little girl to see. The farm is situated just a few minutes drive from Pooley Bridge which is a lovely village with nice pubs. Nigel was installing a dog shower in one of the out buildings whilst we were there, which could be handy to wash muddy paws/tummy's etc. Cons: No back door to the cottage, so had to walk around the front to access the rear garden or lane. It went very dark early (April) and there was no outside lighting along beginning of the lane or over the garden area. Although we had a torch, negotiating the cobbled yard to take the dogs to relieve themselves, was rather tricky and a bit spooky.

Excellent cottage, well equipped, warm, plenty of space. Brilliant location. 10 minute walk to pooley bridge.Only downside was that wifi was only accessible at 1 window - great for switching off but not so good for catching up with emails.
