Bakers Cottage is situated on the High Street in Royal Wootton Bassett, and is a couple of minutes walk from the shops, supermarkets, plenty of pubs and places to eat.
The on-street parking didn't cause us an issue, we found a spot and had a few trips back and forth to unload, but nothing too problematic.
First impressions, the cottage was decorated nicely for Xmas, and was extremely clean and smelt lovely. The owner had left a welcome pack, with basics like washing up liquid and other cleaning materials. It's nice to stay in a cottage where the owner visits and checks things over, unlike many which are cleaned by an outside company - you can tell there is a lot of effort made.
The cottage is very old, and was tastefully decorated with individual touches, not just full of standard stuff, but plenty of cups, glasses, plates, cutlery, pans and dishes for cooking. We ate in a couple of nights, and the cooker/hob worked well.
Previous review mentioned the upstairs floors slope, which they do a little - but the cottage is a few hundred years old - so it is to be expected - certainly nothing to do with safety.
Living area was comfortable with blankets for cold nights, but once we had the open fire stoked up, we didn't need them. The logs at the hardware shop at the opposite end of the town was very reasonable for big bags.
Didn't really use the garden due to it being winter, but it looked tidy.
Stairs were not too steep considering it's an older property.
Main bedroom with ensuite was nice, bed a bit too soft, but just personal preference.
Second bedroom is at the front of the house, but very little noise from the main road, so our daughter slept well. Lots of books, games and DVD's provided for her to play with.
Plenty of storage/cupboard space in both bedrooms.
Bath/showers worked well, and was really handy having the bathroom downstairs too.
All in all, a very nice few days away.
