Lovely cottage, lovely little village and part of the world, can recommend Victoria Inn for food 2 minute walk down the road. Cottage had everything and more.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Many thanks for your review. We were pleased you had such a good weekend, even if cricket was not the best. Thanks for mentioning The Victoria. Lori and David took over the pub this year and have put a lot of effort in to refurbishing it and trying to get it back on track. David is a very good chef and Lori a lovely host so we hope they will continue to offer a good service for our guests as its great to be able to walk to a restaurant rather than have to drive. I hope if you are back in the area again you will make a return visit.

Lovely cottage, with plenty of room for large groups of friends and family. Excellent kitchen and cooking equipment and we loved all the books and games too.

With 6 adults & 4 smallish children there was ample capacity. Also good parking on street. Little if any traffic noise. House exceedingly well equipped with books, games, TV/wifi etc and masses of kitchen kit. Probably a good winter or family get-together place. Room to eat outdoors + BBQ. Hosts greeted us warmly, provided plenty of written guidance on house and local attractions. We put the wrong bin out for the fortnightly recycling, which they corrected without mentioning it - whew! Area good for walking/cross country etc. Plenty of castles & churches, not a lot of 'National Trust' type locations, apart from Durham. Our only drawback was a 5 to 7 hour drive to get there!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Thank you for your positive review Geoffrey, the cottage is well used for family get togethers throughout the year with winter certainly a good cozy time where families can try and escape some of today's technology and come and play some old fashioned games and even just talk. Guests should never have to worry about bins, so that was no problem at all. I note your comment about National Trust and will make a point of putting in more details, particularly their Roman ruin sites which are good family outings in the summer. Great review, many many thanks, its so important to us.

We booked Arrow Cottage for a family reunion of 12, consiting of 7 adults, a couple of teenagers and 3 kids. I didnt actually get to meet Valerie as my brother and his family were the first to arrive. She was very friendly and most helpful in giving information about the local area and had even got the fire going for our arrival. The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and the rooms were all well appointed and beautifully decorated. The beds are comfy and we all slept very well. The room layouts are thoughtful with some king rooms including a single or bunk beds for families. The bedroom with the ensuite is located away from the other rooms and was perfect for my parents who went to bed earlier and weren't disturbed by the rest of us playing games in the dining room until late. The cottage is superbly equipped and we easily made a roast dinner for 12 as there are two ovens, and ample pots, pans and utensils. The dogs were welcome (with a few ground rules). The location in Witton Le Wear is beautiful and we took a lovely long walk one day, had a trip to the beach at Seaham, to Durham city and the train museum. We also booked for a perfomance of Kynren (July to Sept) which is highly recommended. We would highly recommend Arrow Cottage to anyone looking for a getaway with all the comforts of home.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner:- Sorry I did not get to meet you Kyrsty, but thank you so much for such a wonderful review. Your family were lovely and had travelled many miles for this reunion so I am pleased we were able to give you such a cozy welcome as it was a chilly July here in the UK. I am so pleased you were able to attend Kynren. It is such a spectacular outdoor show and only in its second summer. They have a five year plan, so we expect even more next year and I hope our future guests will also visit. Thank you once again for your review.

Very spacious and well equipped cottage, and the owner could not have been more helpful. Witton-le-Wear is a bit lacking in facilities, but Weardale in general was a revelation - some lovely spots.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Well I cannot pretend I am not disappointed with a Review of 8, but I guess I cannot do anything to change the village and its surrounding areas, which I guess are not always going to please everyone. However, if you like a pretty village with two pubs, beautiful walks and a nature reserve on your doorstep, then I hope you will look to visit us. For more excitement, Kynren during the summer months is also a rather spectacular outdoor show to see and its only 5 minutes away. Thank you for your review, I am pleased you found the cottage fine as I always try my best to ensure our guests comfort and enjoyment.
