Description

A rural retreat, surrounded by spectacular views. Spacious and comfortable this barn conversion offers complete seclusion.

Enjoying a peaceful, rural location with unspoilt views of the surrounding countryside, Annie’s Meadow Barn sits within 8 acres of its own meadows, offering complete seclusion and tranquillity. This detached stone barn, which dates back to the 18th century, has been converted into a spacious and comfortable holiday home, with the addition of a games room which features large glass doors opening onto the paved/barbecue area with spectacular views over the countryside. The lively old market town of Ashbourne is only 2½ miles away, offering antique shops, bars, restaurants and cafés. Carsington Water, 6 miles, is a superb windsurfing and sailing centre and has an area devoted to wildlife and nature conservancy. At the watersports centre, guests can hire (with tuition) kayaks, windsurfers, Canadian canoes and bicycles. Professional fly fishing is available to enable guests to try their hand at fishing this popular, well-stocked reservoir. Fine country walking is virtually on the doorstep, and the renowned Tissington and Middleton cycle trails are both close by. Wirksworth, the attractive market of Bakewell, famed for its pudding, and Matlock are all fascinating towns nearby. Matlock Bath, 6 miles, is popular as an inland resort, standing on the River Derwent amid lovely scenery, and offering boating, angling, bowls, tennis and cricket. Enjoy a day out at the National Tramway Museum, where visitors can enjoy the fun experience of trams from around the world. Magnificent Chatsworth House, 16 miles, boasts a famous collection of art treasures, as well as beautiful gardens. Haddon Hall, 13 miles, is England’s most complete and authentic medieval house, dating back to the 14th-century. One of Britain’s premier theme parks, Alton Towers, is also within easy reach. Shops and pub 2 miles.

Ideally, the biggest room in the house, a modern extension with floor heating and floor to ceiling windows with lovely views, should be set up as a living room. However, it had a huge ping pong table set up in the centre of the room, and it was not collapseable. So for our week in March we could not use this room as we were not given a choice. The current narrow living room ideally should be a dinning area as the table in the kitchen was crammed into a corner. Please also install wifi!

Most enjoyable. All family ,four adults and children had a lovely time. We enjoyed several good National Trust visits plus the Tram museum and Chatsworth. Games room in the cottage was well used and enjoyed by the youngsters. Found it a little hard to find when we arrived. Also great fish and chips in Ashbourne.

We were a mixed family group of grand-parents, parents and children (aged 3 years & 4 months). We wanted somewhere away from it all, yet within easy travelling distance of a shop and places of interest. The barn was perfect for us. It had plenty of space, lovely gardens and an interesting layout that our grand-daughter loved exploring. The barn is very well equipped with everything you would expect plus lots you would not. We had 3 cars but the private driveway could easily have accommodated more.

Had a wonderful time. Facilities exactly what was wanted. Location is brilliant. No hesitation to book again or recommend to a friend. If we were really being picky, there are a few gripes: a) no wifi (21st century or what?) b) seating at kitchen table and in lounge is only for 7 (how can you advertise as suitable for 8 adults - unless you hate one of the party, luckily we did!) c) There weren't 8 acres to walk our dogs as the field was full of sheep. We had half an acre! But hey, did it spoil our stay? No, not at all.
