We loved the cottage, it would have been helpful to have more info on local amenities, also directions stated cottage was opposite the post office which had been closed for years. maybe be better if others were warned off the steep hill into Staithes, and the need to park at the top of the hill not an issue for us but could be for others

Lovely quaint fishermen'scottage in the heart of staiths. Cottage has everything you need and the living room is particularly cosy. Good value for money. It has single glazing if you're a light sleeper and no wifi or phone signal if you require technology, I quite enjoyed not being connected to the outside world. :)

We sent three lovely days and nights exploring Staithes and Runswick. Anchor Lea was well located, spacious and very well equipped.

Anchor Lea is in a great location at the centre of a lovely harbour village. Our family have fallen in love with the village and area however the visit was tainted by the poor accommodation. We were greeted on arrival with a strong damp smell which lasted all the week (it felt/smelt like we were staying in a damp training shoe). In addition the accommodation is dusty and grimy. The back yard area is dangerous (high drop from top of the paved area) and unkempt. The most positive aspect of this accommodation is the location. Be aware that the parking is some distance away up a steep hill, so you may need to budget a weeks parking charges into your weekly budget. However, the lack of cars in the village is a positive. It was difficult to relax in bed in the morning due to the local residents from 7am working on their houses and talking (loudly) in the street, maybe we were unlucky that the surrounding properties were having major renovations. It's a pity that the accommodation has so much potential but is clearly not invested in. It appears that there has been a new settee, however the accommodation would really benefit from having the damp being sorted and a good clean prior to paying customers arriving. Feel terrible providing a negative review, however i consider it important that honest feedback is given.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We do not consider our property as poor accommodation. There is some damp in the property which is not unusual for these old fisherman's cottages. As for smelling like a damp trainer, this is an unfair statement and we feel untrue. Having gone into the cottage after the guests stay, we feel our cottage is not grimy. As for being dusty, we cannot comment as we did not see it before the guest and family entered it, so we have been in touch with our caretaker so she can pay particular attention to the dusting. The property is invested in constantly, this year two new sofas, upstairs back double glazed window, hob, bathroom and top landing blinds. We cannot afford to do everything in one go, as much as we would like to. We feel very sorry that this family feel they had a bad experience with our cottage as we do care for our cottage.

This was our third visit to Staithes and second stay at Anchor lea . Lovely location and lovely house. The cooker could do with updating as quite slow to heat up but to be fair we ate at the Cod and Lobster most evenings great food.

I have stayed at Anchor Lea on numerous occasions and have always had a great holiday. The cottage is situated in the centre of the old village and is minutes from the beach and local pubs. We do go to the cottage out of season as it is quieter. The cottages offers us everything we need..log fire, access to local tourist attractions, good pubs, the ability to do as much or as little as we want. The bank into the village is a little steep so no good for people with mobility issues, and you must park your car at the top of the bank in the car park..no parking in the village. Out of season, though, the parking is free of charge. The cottage has a fully equiped kitchen, so if we don't want to eat out we don't have to. There is a butcher in the village that opens every morning so you can buy good local meat, vegetables, newspapers, basic food items. We get logs from a woodyard at Lyth, down the road...self service..load your logs into the car and put the money through the letterbox !!We love it here and will most definately stay at Anchor Lea again

Anchor Lea is in a superb location being in the heart of the village. However, parking is a major issue which adds to the cost of the holiday. The cottage is "tired"'and needs to be updated. The owners/manager were/was difficult to get hold of when a breakdown of the washing machine occured. Otherwise, we had a fab holiday.
