The boiler to gas central heating was very noisy and heating not coming up to temperature. We were told by caretakers previous occupants had also complained about this. (Also recorded in vistors book by previous occupants on several occasions). Owner agreed to get plumber out when we raised issue in first few days of stay but this did not happen in the two weeks we were there. The shower was awful, dangerous, the temperature either too hot (boiling) or suddenly cold. (Again previously raised in visitors book by other occupants) . Bedding & towels clean and fresh smelling but we had to take these to caretaketakers after first week, supplied with fresh bedlinen but given no more towels. Cottage had new carpets to dining and sitting room, but carpets up the stairs and to bedrooms stained and needed good clean and kitchen & bathroom floor filthy. Bathroom needed to be repainted and re-grouted. Cobwebs around ceiling and in lampshades , dust everywhere (Again cleaning issues raised by previous occupants in house visitors book) . Fridge needed freezer compartment and nowhere in kitchen to store food. If we had not needed to stay in area for 2 weeks we would have gone home in first few days, as it was we did manage to leave earlier. There was only the 2 of us, if we had children with us it would have been impossible to stay.

Quiet although on busy road. We were visiting family and used the cottage as a Base. Alfreton is only about five minutes walking distance. Bus station going to Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, Derby Chesterfield. No need to take car which is parked over the road three doors down. People very friendly.

Cottage was warm and cozy and met our needs for the few days we were there. The garden for our dog was not enclosed (gate at front but side houses had open entrance so dog could go into their gardens) and it was shared with the neighbour. No parking outside house but the people up the road whose drive we were allowed to park in (arranged by owners) were lovely and helpful and were only a few houses away. The beds were comfortable and clean but the gutter above window in main bedroom leaked so unless you open the window at night there was a constant dripping sound when it rained. The temperature on the shower was unpredictable so bit dangerous. Otherwise all was good. The weather wasn't good and as we had the dog we couldn't go into indoor places so we cut our holiday short. This was, of course, no fault of the owners. We would stay again but in better weather. Very convenient and easy to find and very warm and cosy with lots of information about things to do in the area. Thank you.

We had a lovely stay at Amberley cottage and we're already talking about coming back next year. Bedding was nice and clean and the cottage too was clean on arrival. Furnishings and decoration was slightly dated but hasn't put us off returning.
