Description

Right from the front door, walks and paths through beautiful scenery can be had from Swallows Nest.

Alta Lyn Barns are set high above the seaside towns of Lynton and Lynmouth. With far reaching views out to the Bristol Channel, these three properties (HKKP, HKKW & HMMH) are part of a barn conversion set within the Exmoor National Park. Set amongst some of the most glorious scenery to be found in Devon, plenty of footpaths and coastal walks can be taken from the apartments, leading to both the South West Coast Path and on to Exmoor National Park. Here you will find walking to suit all abilities and there are plenty of opportunities to spot red deer, Exmoor ponies and buzzards. The properties are well located for exploring the area. Make sure you visit the Victorian cliff railway at Lynton. To the west are some of the country’s finest beaches at Woolacombe and Putsborough. In Ilfracombe you will find the harbour area, Damian Hirst’s ’Verity’ guarding the harbour entrance. There is also the Landmark Theatre and a good range of shops and amenities. A visit to the Combe Martin Wildlife Park and Watermouth Castle all make for an enjoyable day out. Travelling east, take a trip into medieval Dunster, 10 miles, with its historic yarn market, deer park and imposing castle (National Trust). Minehead is 18 miles away, with its super promenade to sit and enjoy an ice cream. Minehead is also home to the West Somerset Steam Railway. Take in some of the small villages close by on your travels, such as Blue Anchor, Porlock, Bossington and Withypool. There are National Trust properties at Arlington and Knightshayes. Cycling, horse riding, golf and fishing are all available locally. Shops 1 mile, pub 500 yards.

Two steps or ramp to entrance. All on ground floor: Living room with French doors. Kitchen/dining room. Wooden floors throughout. 1 double with additional single. Shower room with toilet.

We had a great break at Swallows Nest good accommodation clean and in a good location. Was made to feel welcome by Pete who gave us all the information we needed. Plenty of close walks for the dogs and wonderful scenery. Would thoroughly recommend Swallows Nest and if we visit Devon again would have no hesitation in re booking

The cottage is classed as four star but it clearly isn't. We were told not to arrive before 4 and the cottage wasn't quite ready . On the kitchen table were 3 small jars of tea, coffee and sugar . The sugar had been there along time as it was a solid mass and the coffee was a solid mass and black . There was a stain on the rug where a dog had either been sick or had a wee . The cottage had a smell as soon as we walked in . The dvd player wasn't even set up . The cottage needed a really good clean . We have stopped in other properties with our dogs and they haven't smelled . Other properties have had welcome packs varying from wine ,flowers, biscuits, scones,Welsh cakes . I would have expected a four star rating to do this . We were in what we thought was a cottage but it had people above us which we didn't expect .

The only significant problem was the bathroom sink and tap. The bathroom was designed for handicapped access and that was not a problem in itself - in fact it was spacious and the shower was particularly good. However, the wash basin was far too small and mounted at knee height for a six footer, with a mirror mounted at chest height - not good for your posture! The tap was a mixer tap but unusually turning the tap on starts with cold water and warms up to hot water as the pressure increases, causing the water to splash over the edge. There is plenty of room to mount a normal size basin and mirror and that would resolve this problem.

Fantastic place ,sea views everything you need just a short drive to lynton ,or if you are energetic enough you can walk, also we took two dogs with us and they enjoyed the walks it is a working farm so you have to keep that. In mind ,but we found it ok it didn't disturb us in any way .
