Offering some of the best beaches and surf in the country, Abbot’s Cottage is an ideal getaway with local attractions.

Forming part of the courtyard to one of Braunton’s oldest houses are these two converted barns. Situated close to the centre of the village, the holiday homes are within easy reach of Braunton’s shops, restaurants and pubs. The barns can be joined together via a connecting corridor and so can be hired together for larger groups. Braunton is the gateway to North Devon’s surfing area, and the well renowned beaches of Croyde, Saunton and Woolacombe offer some of the best sandy beaches and surf in the country. The backdrop to these beaches is the stunning South West Coast Path which offers some excellent walking with lovely views over the sea. There is plenty to do for all ages in the area including Clovelly, the lighthouse and quay at Hartland, the Big Sheep and Milky Way amusement parks, RHS Rosemoor at Torrington, cycling on the Tarka Trail or crabbing at Ilfracombe harbour. The regional town of Barnstaple has plenty of good shops and restaurants and the pannier market and Butcher’s Row are well worth a visit. Dartmoor and Exmoor are both within reach as well as the areas around the northern part of Cornwall. Shops and pub 100 yards.

All on ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with slate floor. 1 double bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Stereo/CD. Washing machine. Patio. Parking (1 car).

Both properties: Gas central heating (controlled by owner), gas, electricity, bed linen and towels included. Cot. DVD. Gas hob. Electricity oven. Microwave. Freezer. Small lawned garden with sitting-out area and furniture.Telephone-incoming calls only.

We spent a week at Abbot's Retreat, having never visited the North Devon area before. Our hosts were very welcoming and very knowledgeable about the local area, and provided us with plenty of guidance on places to visit. The cottage was perfectly adequate for what we required, and gave us an excellent base to explore the local area. We would certainly consider returning if we were to plan a future holiday in this beautiful part of the country. We had a hugely enjoyable week.

The garden was not secure for a dog. The tv was from the 1980's! and out of focus. There were 2 plates 2 bowls 2knifes 2 spoons 2 mugs!!!!!! The bed was out of the ark and the pillows where waffer thin. There was a dinner table and one chair. Two of which had collapsed base. Enjoyed the actual holiday but the accommodation was hardly value for money.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. The property description does not state that the garden is enclosed; the only way a dog could get out of the garden would be if the gate was open, which is controlled by the guest. We are due to replace the TV set next year so we do appreciate that comment. The property is suitable for 2 people and the equipment provided within the Retreat complies with the property inventory that is provided by Cottages 4 You and is in keeping with the Tourist Board list. The bed is modern and there are 2 pillows each provided, all new in April. The comfort of a bed is down to individual preference and we have not received negative comments previously. There is 1 chair in the bedroom, 1 in the dining area, 2 stools by breakfast area and 2 on the patio. Therefore we feel there is enough provided. We only found the armchair base had collapsed after your stay, these armchairs have now been replaced. None of these issues were brought to our attention during your stay, which we feel is surprising due to our regular meetings and we are onsite. Mention was made on your arrival if you required anything else or had any difficulties; you could approach us and we would be more than happy to help.
