Northumbrian Cottages

The Northumberland Regional Specialist - Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Northumberland better!

Description

A newly built eco-friendly ‘bunkhouse style’ lodge set within 5 acres on the fringe of Kielder Forest. This accommodation can be booked with other properties on site to accommodate groups of up to 44!

Set within five acres on the fringe of Kielder Forest in the heart of the Northumberland National Park, next to the cycle route (10) nestles three Bothy’s (CC325033-34-35) and a larger Tarset Tor Bunkhouse (CC325031). Set in the Gold award winning National Park Dark Sky area, the darkest in Europe and ideal for stargazers. These eco-friendly bothy’s each sleeping 8 people with cosy stoves, and the larger bunkhouse sleeping up to 20 use the latest green energy technology. Each individual bothy has stunning views and along with Tarset Tor have been lovingly created from sustainable sourced cedar to offer unique, high quality bunkhouse and bothy accommodation ideal for the gathering of larger groups and extended families. Ideal location for holiday and celebrations, offering quite unique accommodation. Tarset Tor is sprawled across one level and is divided into six similarly proportioned rooms adjoined by a corridor at its rear. The open plan kitchen/living space is contemporary with a wood pellet stove being a cosy and welcoming feature. Its large hand-built dining table and benches become a sociable space with pool table by uncovering the wooden table top. Each of the four family bedrooms is identical with two sets of bunk beds; single size on top and double on the bottom. At the far end of the property is a fresh and modern wet room with five separate cubicles; two WC’s, two showers and an accessible shower cubicle with shower and WC. There are three basins in the communal area. A south facing covered veranda spans the entire length of the property and affords stunning views; an idyllic space to fine alfresco after a day exploring the wild and rugged vistas that surround Tarset Tor. Each bothy has a south facing veranda with furniture for relaxing. On site is a small coarse fishing pond with rod hire at £5. All bothy’s and the bunkhouse have free Wi-Fi with the bothy’s having Smart TV’s, Ipod docks, radios and CD players. An amazing area to spend a week or short break in the county that is reputedly the friendliest in England. A selection of activities can be arranged with the owner before or during your stay. The site also benefits from a small woodland that includes a bar, BBQ area and firepit facilities along with an outdoor shower, double sink and composting eco WC! You can also enjoy vistas extending right to the Scottish Borders and the Tyne Valley.Employing a sustainable approach to tourism to preserve the beautiful Northumbrian landscape for future generations to enjoy is at the heart of Tarset Tor’s ethos. The dedicated owners have worked hard to keep the carbon footprint to a minimum by using renewable resources and buying locally. Using the latest in eco-technology there is a heating system derived from wood pellet boilers, electricity subsidised by solar energy and recycled newspaper cavity wall insulation.

All spot on apart from the cold showers. Very welcoming and even gave us a ball and chain for the stag to walk around awkwardly. Even sending back a wallet one of us left behind. Thank you very much to our hosts. We'll definitely be coming back and will recommend you.

Fantastic place, we had a great time! There were 16 of us and it's well equipped to handle that number of people, the pool table and sauna were great. Rob and Claire are lovely, the area is beautiful, many good walks to go on and sights to see. Would highly recommend.

The host could not have been more welcoming, and the place is just what we wanted....we had a great time...our only little gripe was the shower area....we found the floor soon flooded and the floor in some places felt as if they needed some attention but that did not detract from our stay.
