    Far from the madding crowd, this delightfully cosy holiday cottage is one of only a handful of buildings in the beautiful and unique moorland landscape of Grisedale, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Built in 1666 with low beams and latch doors, it has wonderful open views from the south-facing garden. Grisedale (also spelt Grisdale on some maps) is located close to the train station of Garsdale, just off the A684 between Hawes, 6 miles, and Sebergh, 10 miles. The nearest pub, serving good food and a selection of real ales, is about 3 miles away. Grisedale was known as the ’The Dale that Died’ from the book and TV documentary of the same name, filmed in the 1970s when the last remaining inhabitant left the valley. Since then, many of the buildings, including Moor Rigg Cottage, have been renovated and life has returned to the valley. The area is a real paradise for bird watchers, with many species of owl and other birds of prey being found in Grisedale, along with ground nesting birds (skylark, curlew, oystercatcher, lapwing and red grouse). Red squirrels, hares, deer and wild ponies also frequent the dale. There are many footpaths across Grisedale and large areas of open access land. The cottage is located close to the Yorkshire Dales famous 3 Peaks walk, with 2 of the 3 peaks visible from the garden. It is also near the 2014 Tour de France route, allowing visitors to experience the spectacular scenery and follow in the trail of some true cycling legends.
