Baslow, 4 miles from Bakewell, is home to the exceptional Chatsworth House and gardens or visit the medieval manor house of Haddon Hall. You can also join the traffic free Monsal Trail for walking or cycling. Nearby Peak District villages include Ashford in the Water and Rowsley and you can reach the spa town of Buxton, Castleton with its caves, Matlock and Carsington Water in around half an hour. The UK’s premier theme park Alton Towers is around a 45 minute drive.

Whitby is still a busy working harbour and you can sit and watch the fishermen bring in their catch or see the children enjoying the pleasure boats. Whitby has a large sandy beach and perched on the hill overlooking the town is the famous Whitby Abbey. The cobbled streets lead you up to the abbey where the last stretch is a climb of 199 steps. There are excellent views from the top down towards Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough, then north towards Sandsend and Staithes. Beach 10 miles. Shop 40 yards, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
